Bases loaded with nobody out

The Giants have not had any players catch the flu.

They do have a few injured regulars. Joe Panik is playing for AAA-Sacramento, rehabbing from concussion symptoms that he suffered last month. Matt Duffy is on the 15-day DL with a strained Achilles heel. Hunter Pence has been out since early June with a torn hamstring. He is expected back in about 2 weeks.

And, the Giants were kind enough to win that game over the MFY. The O's gained a game on the entire division with yesterday's win. Let's hope for another today.

The Red Sox again.

Trailing by a score of 4-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, they loaded the bases with nobody out.

A single plated one run, but then Holt struck out, and Betts grounded into a double play to end the inning.

So, they had the bases loaded and nobody out and they scored a run ...... but after that, they STILL had the bases loaded with nobody out, and they failed to score.

Maybe those Sox fans have a point. ;-)

The Cubs ahd the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the 7th inning against the Cardinals.

They did not score.

The very next half inning, the Cardinals hit a 3-run home run to take the lead by a score of 4-3, and then hit another round-tripper to make it 5-3.

I just don't see the Cubs getting past the Giants and if I were them I would hope the cards don't make it. The cards have great confidence in beating the cubbies. They have no fear.

The Red Sox again.

Not the bases loaded, but an offensive futility that is just as bad.

The men from eastern Massachusetts had runners on 2nd and 3rd base with nobody out in the top of the 9th inning against the Indians.

1)) Strikeout.

2)) Flyout.

3)) Flyout.

No runs for the Red Sox.

Guess who ???

The Red Sox.

Not a complete failure this time, but pretty bad.

In a scoreless game against the D-Rays in southwestern Florida, the Red Sox had a chance to break the game open (or at least gain a significant advantage) when they loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the 6th inning. They scored a run on a sacrifice fly. Then they drew a walk, loading the bases YET AGAIN with only one out. They grounded into a double play to end the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, the D-Rays came right back with a run of their own to tie it at 1 apiece.

I thought only the Orioles screwed up in those situations. ;)

The very next inning (the 7th), the Red Sox' lead-off batter walked. He tried to steal 2nd base, and was thrown out. 2 batters later, the Red Sox hit a double ...... but nobody scored, because nobody was on base.

The inning after that (the 8th), Mookie Betts got a base hit deep into left field with 2 outs. He tried to stretch his long single into a double, and was thrown out to end the inning.

And the Red Sox lose when Ortiz strikes out looking in the bottom of the 9th. Interestingly, the Rays had a pitching change in the top of the 9th when Ortiz came in to pinch hit. They switched to a LH pitcher. Can anyone imagine the Orioles/Buck ever switching away from Britton in a one-run game in the top of the 9th and 2 outs?
