Zach Duke was filthy that inning. Previous pitcher walked 3 straight batters to load em up.

In regards to the O's tonight, you could feel when they didn't get a run with the bases juiced it would come back to haunt them.

You still like your chances but it makes your margin of error much less and gives away momentum. Especially with that TEX offense in that ballpark.

FWIW, according to Tom Tango, teams failed to score with the bases loaded and nobody out 13.9% of the time from 2010-15. So, it happens more often than you might think. The O's have had 11 plate appearances with the bases loaded and nobody out, so you'd expect that they would have failed to score once or twice. I don't know how many times they actually have failed, though from this thread I guess we know it's happened at least twice this season.

11 appearances with bases loaded, no outs: .250/.182/.625 - .807 OPS, 8 RBI - 3 sacrifice flies, 2 hits, 0 double plays

26 appearances with bases loaded, 1 out: .417/.385/.750 - 1.135 OPS, 30 RBI - 2 sacrifice flies, 10 hits, 5 double plays

20 appearances with bases loaded, 2 out: .100/.100/.100 - .200 OPS, 4 RBI, 2 hits

So, in 57 plate appearances with the bases loaded, 14 hits, 5 double plays, 42 RBI, 5 sacrifice flies

Thanks. You still can't tell from that how many times they failed to score in an inning where they had the bases loaded and nobody out.

Duke was nowhere near as filthy as Pedroia made him look. Pedroia guessed offspeed and struck out on a fastball down the middle. Good pitchers often get out of the bases loaded situation by exploiting hitters' over-eagerness to drive in the runs. That's just how DOD has done it to other teams several times over the past two years, getting them to swing through high fastballs even early in the count because they were so eager to drive in the runs.

I look forward to credit being given to the pitcher the next time the O's fail in a similar situation.

I have a feeling that this season, MLB might be setting a record for having loaded bases with no outs, and nobody scoring. It sure seams to see it pop up on on scoreboard app.
