Can you fill out the O's roster for less than $10M?

Sadly most of your projections aren't even close.

Even considering his poor season Salty made 7.5 million each of the past 2 seasons. He is likely going to take a cut but not to .5 million. Jackson is likely to get 1 million more. Bourn hasn't played for under 4 million since 2009. And there is no way he does now and Boras is his agent.

Also I'm not a fan of giving Pearce 5 million.

Saltalamacchia was DFA'd in year 2 of his 3 year contract with the Marlins in 2015 and signed to a 0.5MM contract last year and hit .171 with a 69 wRC+. He'd be lucky to get another major league deal. I think he is a likely target for the Orioles because he's who we were going after before Wieters accepted his QO.

Bourn was DFA'd in 2015 and has played for 5 franchises over the last two years. I agree he's not going to want to take a big pay cut but he's essentially a replacement level player and he's going to be 34 years old. He will likely get a major league deal, but not for much more over league minimum. His strong finish with the Orioles could get him a slightly higher salary, but I wouldn't consider it likely. I doubt he exceeds 3MM.

Austin Jackson was a free agent all of last offseason before settling for a $5 million contract. He had a knee injury and only played 54 games, with a wRC+ of 79. He signed for a bargain deal last offseason but his stock is way down from that point. He's only going to get a 1 year contract and he'd be fortunate to match last year's salary. The Boras factor is a complete wildcard, of course, and the big problem with him is that he only wants to play CF.

OF - ? DrungoHazewood. Well traveled smart veteran. Career hasn't worked the way it wanted to but still a solid player. Is often found at his locker reading engineering books with titles that his teammates can't pronounce. Has spent time backing up Bill James in Boston, Billy Beane in Oakland, Theo Epstein in Chicago and Voros McCracken during his second stint in Boston. Once clocked Murray Chass during a brawl in Pittsburgh with vicious Odor-ian right cross.

To bolster my resume I played in our annual work softball game. Went roughly 3-for-5 with a double, if the official scorer was being nice. Fielded about .500 but actually had a diving catch at short.

I'm up for it, but I can't believe I'm sitting the bench behind Frobby!

Haha and from Robby's resume, we know that the official scorer was sketchy, to say the least!

I can do it for less than 25 bucks.

C - Can of Corn - The perfect catcher. A little crotchety and grouchy. He'll hit .230 but probably has a great arm and can block balls in the dirt. Pitch selection will be called into question every so often. Will be a debate on the board as to why he's looking into the dugout at Buck between pitches.

1B - Davis - $23M

2B - Schoop - $3.4M (arb)

SS - Hardy - $14M

3B - Machado - $11.2M (arb)

LF - Kim - $4.2M

CF - Jones - $16.3M

RF - ? Frobby. Duh. His knees might be a little bad at his age but he'll always come through. The ultimate teammate that everyone loves. Lawyer background makes him a natural to hold the Kangaroo Court postgame.

DH - ? Roy Firestone. Swinging at everything, up there hacking. Yearns for the days of when players wore their pants too tight and wore stirrups and will rock that look, making him a fan favorite.

C - Joseph - $1M (arb)

IF - Flaherty - $1.7M (arb)

UTIL- ? OFFNY. He's just everywhere.

SP - Tillman - $10.6M (arb)

SP -Gausman - $3.9M (arb)

SP - Jimenez - $13.5M

SP - Bundy? - $2M

SP - Gallardo - $11M

CL - Britton - $11.4M (arb)

SU - O'Day - $7M

SU - Brach - $2.9M (arb)

MR - Givens - pre-arb

MR - ? Weams, the lefty specialist. Doesn't throw that hard but has that Jesse Orosco snapdragon slurve that no one can touch.

MR - ? RZNJ. A little ornery if you piss him off, has been known to go headhunting at times. Rears back and throws straight heat, occasionally reaching triple digits. The new Kyle Farnsworth. Since he's from NJ, he has a mullet, making him a fan favorite as well.

LR - Miley - $8.92M

Best. Post. Ever.

Rickard in RF. He's got some crazy good OBP in his 4 years in the minors.

Mancini at DH. Again pretty impressive OBP the last 2 years in minors.

Nick Hundley at catcher.

My gut tells me that this is probably not that far off from what will happen. Although Rickard really should be a platoon partner with Kim. Add in Pearce and/or a Michael Bourn type and we should be able to do that under budget.

I'm fine with Joey Rickard as a 4th outfielder that starts against LHP.

I'm not fine with Joey Rickard in a role any more substantial than that. He was a far below replacement level player, a below average defender, and put up a .296 OBP and .618 OPS vs RHP.

No problem for me platooning him with Kim in LF, .313 .367 .494 .861 v LHP.

Here's a name that I haven't seen thrown out too much: Martin Prado.

Made $11M last year and on the old side. I view him similar to Zobrist. He'd boost OBP. You wouldn't have to carry a utility guy. He'd be IF insurance if Hardy gets hurt.

He could be the LF with Kim at DH.

To format your roster a bit:

C - Joseph - $1M (arb)

1B - Davis - $23M

2B - Schoop - $3.4M (arb)

SS - Hardy - $14M

3B - Machado - $11.2M (arb)

LF - Kim - $4.2M

CF - Jones - $16.3M

RF - Bourn 5m

DH - Mancini - lg min

C - Sisco/Pena/other minors C - lg min

IF - Flaherty - $1.7M (arb)

OF - Rickard - lg min

UTIL - Janish - lg min

SP - Tillman - $10.6M (arb)

SP -Gausman - $3.9M (arb)

SP - Bundy? - $2M

SP - Jimenez - $13.5M

SP - Miley - $8.92

CL - Britton - $11.4M (arb)

SU - O'Day - $7M

SU - Brach - $2.9M (arb)

MR - Givens - pre-arb

MR - Holt - lg min

MR - McFarlan or another ML arm. it seems he will be DFA. so maybe Bradley at this point.

LR - MGallardo - $11M

------------------------

So that's 7 spots. 1 Catcher, 2 OF plus 2 other bats, and 2 MR.

there is my list, although I can see Rickard moving to AAA and other RF option instead.

I actually want the Orioles to trade Hardy, move Manny to SS and sign Prado to play 3B. Prado's an excellent defensive 3B so there won't be too much of a drop-off defensively plus the upgrade in offense from Hardy to Prado would be quite significant.

Hardy would have to approve of a trade. I don't see him doing that.

Joseph as your starter? Michael Bourn making 5M and an everyday starter? The same Michael Bourn who has been replacement level the last 3 years and is going to be 34?
