Well, crap.    He had a streak of 265+ games going (that’s the last two years; not sure how far into 2017 it goes.

But, I’m not so sure he wouldn’t be back in time for the playoffs.   That’s still 9 weeks away.

Could be, but wrists are really important for hitters.

Nick is out 6-8 weeks per reports.  So, he’ll be stuck a while at 2,341 hits, 140th on the all time list and one behind Joe Torre.    

His chances of reaching 3,000 hits weren’t good anyway, but this puts a real dent in them.    He’d need to play 4 more full seasons at about the level he’s been playing to reach that figure.

It was gonna be up hill not matter what, but this would seem to make it all but impossible.  (I still hope he cheats Father Time and makes it!).

That is somewhat reminiscent of when Nick had his thumb fractured by a CC Sabathia pitch in early September of 2012, and the Orioles made the playoffs a month later.

The Orioles lost to the Yankees in the divisional playoffs, but if they had won that series and the next one against the Tigers and made it as far as the World Series, Nick said that would have been able to play.

A small sigh of relief as the Braves didn't buy an outfielder.  Adam Duvall is on a good run, but I feel pretty confident the Braves would greatly prefer to give Markakis October at-bats if he has a week or two to get the rust off.  Duvall to me is kind of a poster child for a slugger who can get his roto stats in the 162, but everyone expects would go 1-for-15 if he is a regular in the divisional series.

Really the drama now is Nick not losing his October.  As a fan of him building his case beyond Hall of Very Good, a key plank in the platform is him having some kind of Bloody Sock moment some fall to accompany the ~2600 hits.

There is virtually no one I’d rather watch in the postseason than Nick Markakis. 

Oh, and I have a small bet on the Braves to go all the way. Definitely a long shot, but again, no one I’d rather see get a WS ring.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said it looked as if Markakis (fractured left wrist) "hadn't missed a beat" after the outfielder took live batting practice prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Markakis, who has been sidelined since July 27, will go through a similar routine Thursday, though the training staff also wants to see the outfielder run the bases and slide before he's forced to do so in a game situation. Assuming all goes well again on Thursday, the club will re-evaluate Markakis' status and could activate him as soon as Friday's series opener against the Nationals in Washington.
