Sign Cobb, 3 years 40 million

year 1: 20 million

year 2: player option 12 million

year 3: player option 8 million

I like 3/40. I dont like player opt outs after year one and two. He could easily pitch to a 4.00 ERA and opt out, knowing he would still get a better contract.

My thinking is that the O's want to compete in 2018, and then re-build in 2019 and beyond, so my thought process was to throw an irresistible amount of money at him in 2018,

with a low player option for 2019, 2020 to give Cobb some insurance against an injury, but if he pitches well the O's have him for one year and can start the re-build in 2019 Win/Win

I'd scrap the option years if I could.  He'd only exercise them if he had a bad season.

Didn't he turn down 3/50+ from the Cubs earlier in the offseason?

I believe the Cubs offer was around 3/42.

Personally, I'd rather have Lynn, but I'd be OK with Cobb.

I like Cobb because he has a lower BB rate in the AL than Lynn had in the NL

Putting any extra men on base can lead to disaster at Camden Yards (See most of the O's 2017 rotation).
