My hopes are that the 2020 #1 pick(Hancock/Wilcox), Hall, and Rodriguez make up the top three spots of the 2022 rotation at some point. Then the rest of the Bowie guys(w/Akin and Harvey), fill out the rotation and bullpen.

He had thrown 82 and 84 pitches in two of his last three appearances (the other being a 52 pitch three inning outing where he closed out the game), so I don't think sending him out to start an inning with 70 pitches would be pushing him.

I am curious whether he has an innings limit this year. He only threw 37 innings last year after throwing 90 in 2017. He is currently at 69 innings, which is nice. The Baysox have 40 games left, plus (likely) the playoffs. He is probably looking at another 40-45 innings if all goes well and he isn't capped.

Has Sedlock regained "prospect" status? I watched one video of him. FB looked really really straight and not overpowering. The change up looked good. The results on paper look good. 

Upon watching him, my first thought was "reliever" the majors. Just looks like alot of effort to get what velocity he does. One fan's untrained eye.

Others would know better than I, but I think he has, due to his recent performance and draft pedigree.

Yep. The prospect lists won't be gushing over him, but he's worthy of a mention, IMO.

Keith Law was asked today about Sedlock.

 

GJ: Went to Pizzeria Bianco this week before the O’s/Diamondbacks game based on your recommendation. Needless to say it was awesome! Do you believe in the resurgence of Corey Sedlock? Former first rounder finally healthy and pitching well. Future starter or bullpen piece?
Keith Law: Based on what I saw I think a bullpen piece.

 

For him to even look like a bullpen piece at this point is a huge jump forward.

I’ll say not necessarily.    It’s more about the quality of the performance than the former draft ranking.

Rough outing today for Sedlock. Went 4 and 2/3rds and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 81 pitches. He also threw 3 wild pitches. He has only thrown 1 wild pitch prior to today, so hopefully that is a one off thing.

He should have two starts left this season, though I don't know what (if any) his inning limit is.

Good chance Sedlock begins next year at Bowie, I think.   He’s done reasonably well there overall but I think Elias will want him to have some more AA innings under his belt before moving him up.

      I'll be honest, the playoffs didn't put me in a happy mood and reading this board has only made it worse.  The amount of people, many well respected, with over the top, outrageous takes calling guys "losers" and "chokers" etc. is ridiculous imo.  This reads more like a football board than a baseball board, and that's not a compliment. I'm kind of at a loss for what they should do to be honest.  The 2nd half drop-off imo is mostly explained by the injuries, particularly on the mound, and Adley's inexplicable performance.  If they were to run the team back with some minimal upgrades to the rotation and pen, sans Burnes and Santander, I think that's a team that could/should win 95ish games and compete for the division.  But there's downside there too.  And if you get Adley of the 2nd half, then you might be looking more at 85ish wins and missing the playoffs. However, I see a lot of schizophrenic and illogical takes on the board.  A lot of people are calling for a "veteran hitter" for the lineup; many of those same people are all too happy to let Santander walk.  Some are calling to not just "hand jobs to young guys;" many of these people were the loudest in demanding more aggressive promoting of prospects. I'm just generally down on the tenor of the board, and personally, I don't have any crazy strong feelings about what I think the O's should or should not do, which is fairly unusual for me.

      The Phillies are profitable.  The Mets and the Padres are the only two teams that have really done aggressive “deficit-spending” in pursuit of a ring in the last few years.

      If someone pays Burnes 400 mil or anything close. I think there are owners out there that haven't learned anything and have more money that brains. Don't get me wrong - Burnes is a good pitcher but that's it he is a good pitcher that will turn 30 next year. I believe the calculus for paying 30ish starting pitchers of value is changing. I believe - regardless of Boras - shorter terms and higher average annuals will be in play. So to me, 4/120 isn't a stupid prediction. Guess we shall see.

      There is NOTHING preventing the Orioles of signing any player to a serious contract. Especially considering we have signed ZERO since Chris Davis way back in what 2015? That was almost a decade ago. We have been operating in a non-serious manner for too long when it comes to the org’s on field investment.  Teams that don’t spend don’t win World Series. Look at the last 20 years of the game. The Astros first World Series is the only team who wasn’t too half of the league who won a championship.

      Some owners spend and want to win (Mets, Padres, Phillies). Some are more interested in making money (Rays, Guardians, etc). If Rubenstein is a profits based owner (has to make money year after year like JA) vs an investment style o lever (accepts some years May come with a loss or small net gain) then we (the fans) will be screwed. We will be akin to the Rays who are content with being “good”. But they are never willing to do what it takes to be good enough. I hope Rubenstein and everyone associated with the business or the Orioles paid a lot of attention to all of the empty seats for playoff games. That is evidence of a fanbase/market place who is not fully engaged.  The onus is on the Orioles to give people a compelling reason to come out and spend money especially in this economy. And it cannot just be hey look we have a winning team. The franchise must do more including investing in the on field product (in terms of committed dollars like every other serious franchise who is trying to win a championship).

      My recollection is that MLB has rules about how much debt teams are allowed to take on and how much money owners are allowed to infuse into their franchises.   They supposedly won't approve contracts if they think a contract will cause them to exceed these thresholds.

      Yeah like Tony T but Tony has the ability to foul pitches at will.  I want Cowser to be more like @waroriole’s Rob Refsnyder and Holliday to be Steven Kwan.  Is that too much to ask of number one picks?  But I love Cowser and most of everything he brings.
