He said that the Cubs World Series broke all kinds of records.  He also stated that if the games of the 70s could be shown now live that they would be through the roof. He also spoke about the value of the six second in game spots that they are using during pauses in action. Tied to 30 second spots during breaks in the action.

The new FOX deal cements a value going forward for televised baseball.  It increases it. I listened to a Fox executive just going on about just how valuable live sports is compared to any scripted content.

People pay closer attention to live programming - particularly sports programming - than they do to scripted programs. Because of the audience's heightened level of attention, the ads shown during a sporting event tend to be more effective than those shown in scripted content. And because of all of that, advertisers pay more to have their spots run during a sporting event.

The sons should know if they plan to own the team after their father passes on this isn’t going to buy them any goodwill with the commissioner.

I’m guessing this was the old man’s decision.

If it was his decision they could have reversed it.  This has played out too long.  The American Judicial system needs some fixing when a case like this has taken so many years and nothing has gotten closer to being settled.

Edit - I found the new case and tried to post links, but the links don’t work.    In any event the article describes the new case accurately.   No date set yet for an argument on the issue.   On a quick skim of the brief explaining why relief is needed, there's nothing that sheds light on the status of the rights fee arbitration that was heard by the RSDC back in November.

Agreed. There isn’t a good reason for this lawsuit to be never ending.

If anyone wants to read it, here is a link to the memorandum filed by the Nats arguing why the Judge should enter an order halting the AAA arbitration the O's have started unless the O's can show cause why the AAA should hear it.   https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=EtoAUWZ44bjo7gOqJA7UxA==     It is redacted in several places -- what do they think this is, the Mueller Report?   9_9

Well, that link is password protected.
