Everyone that said anything allowed that it was a good thing for him to get a degree if he had a legitimate reason for not playing beyond getting his degree.

We all accepted that our knowledge was incomplete.

I don't think any of us thought he just decided to blow off his professional debut to get his degree.

At least some people seemed to react that way, despite direct statements to the contrary.   The same day we learned he was earning his degree, we also learned he had a “non-sports medical reason” for missing fall camp.   But some people still responded as though he’d simply decided to blow off fall instructs to get his degree and argued either for or against the merits of that.

Pretty much everyone is speculating that he has a reason beyond getting his degree which is causing him to miss camp.

Could well be, but not necessarily.
In 2013, about 1.5 million cases of acute myocarditis occurred.  While people of all ages are affected, the young are most often affected.   It is slightly more common in males than females.”

Yep, it’s not particularly uncommon. Associated with viral infections broadly.

From Roch:

The “non-sports medical issue” with Kjerstad turned out to be an episode of myocarditis. I’ve been hearing for months that it wasn’t COVID-19 - an assumption based on the “non-sports” part and the team keeping it private.

That always adds up to COVID-19 or exposure to it.

The industry rumor mill was churning out another explanation, which I won’t share because it proved to be false. But there definitely was more going on with Kjerstad, who is expected to speak with the media later and shed more light on the situation.

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle that can cause an abnormal rhythm and be a side effect of COVID-19, but so far there’s no indication that Kjerstad tested positive for the virus.

I wonder what the other reexplanation" was... Cryptic. Glad it was false.

That was not what it seemed at the time. And looking back did not change the way I interpreted several comments questioning Kjerstad’s commitment to playing baseball. Some of the posters in that thread should be ashamed of themselves. Just ridiculous.
