O's Starters after four rounds

wildcard

Recommended Posts

Means open day starts.  Matt Harvey  and  Zimmermann should be in the rotation.  Kremer probably has a spot based on last season.   Lopez, LeBlanc and Akin still battling for the 5th spot.    Valdez to get a start.  Can't count him out.

O’s have been on a 5 man rotation through ST.  I don’t see that changing in season.

I am curious to see Valdez in more of a bulk role, but he plays so nicely behind either Akin or Zimmermann, and I am a little nervous about overexposing the dead fish.

I trust Kremer so much more than Harvey for steady innings I'm sort of tempted to slot him 4th to break up the two lefty non-changeup artists.   Means, Harvey, Akin, Kremer, Zimmermann with Valdez 6th man also preserves the strict seniority of it all for homegrowns!

I hope LeMahieu, Judge, Stanton get Openers as our kid lefties get acclimated.

That would make sense when they play NYY early on. Certainly possible Valdez could be an opener on this team. That actually makes a ton of sense.

if there was ever a year to try some things it’s this year. Carrying 9 arms in pen allows more things.

Means, Zimm, Akin, LeBlanc are alL LH.

Kremer, Lopez, Harvey Valdez are RH.

All things equal what breakdown do we want? 3-2 R-LH or vice versa?

And of course all things AREN’T equal.

I’ve decided I want Means, Zimm, Kremer, Harvey, which is 2 and 2. Who gets #5? And #6-7 go to the pen, either LeBlanc or Akin becomes long LH man in the pen who replaces Fry who goes to Norfolk.

Why the preference for Kremer over Akin.  Is Kremer seen more as a long term starter and Akin a long term reliever.  Both had great debuts last year and neither has been impressive this spring, at least looking at the stats.  I agree that Zimmerman should have a spot.  If a prospect can't earn a spot this year with a great spring, when can they?

I like Lopez in the bullpen.

I will be disappointed if Elias gets too conservative with Zimmermann. It's time to see what a few of these guys have.

Felix to IL.

Wade TBD. Bullpen? Don't really want to see him added to the 40.

Akin needs to be on the club in some capacity. I think he starts.

I don't read much into the Valdez start, I think he's in the bullpen.

Felix is on a minor league contract.  He does not need to go the the IL.  Just assign him to the alternate site.

There is space for Matt Harvey and LeBlanc  on the 40 man roster.  With Goudeau gone they are at 39 and Davis to the 60 man IL.

I feel like out pitching staff as a whole is begging for some openers instead of the traditional 5 man rotation.  Many of our guys have stuff, but are best utilized once through the line up.

With the makeup of this roster this is a year to try some Tampa Bay Ray type stuff.

I’m hoping to see it line up something like Means, Kremer, Zimmerman, Harvey, Lopez to start the season. Keep Akin and LeBlanc ready at the alternate site for when one of these guys inevitably gets hurt or implodes. Hernandez is a possibility to be the first one called up post-opening day but it’s hard to say with his injuries and questionable abilities.  Valdez seems like the perfect guy to have on hand for long stretches in the BP and as much as I want to see him start it just doesn’t make much sense squeezing him in the rotation.

I could just as easily see Akin making it instead of Lopez. But that would mean there would need to be room made in the BP for Lopez.
