It's Opening Day! (for real, for real)

I was pretty excited walking up today realizing that I get to watch real, live baseball in front of some fans.

Due to distance (or the team starting the season on the road when I was in the area), I have only made it to two OD games, 2016 and 2017... but both of those were walk-off wins.

I can't remember the year but watching the outfielders trying to catch fly balls in the snow on opening day.  It was a cold April afternoon.

Pretty sure I went to that game.    Late 90’s early 00’s I think.   Jerry Hairston era?

Pause...my memory is good!   2003, and it ended on a Gary Matthews walk-off hit in the 13th.

The O’s have had several Opening Day walk-offs, and those probably top my list.   In recent years there was the Wieters walk-off single in ‘16 (which I attended) and Trumbo’s homer in ‘17, in addition to the snow game mentioned above.

The first game at OPACY certainly ranks up there.

The game specifically that I think off is OD at Camden Yards and Rick Sutcliffe.

But more generally, I remember my mom would always come pick me up from school early so I could watch the game.  I've continued that tradition with my own kids.  Will be leaving work today and picking up my kids around 1PM for a "family activity".

My son told his teacher that he wasn’t feeling well because he had baseball fever for the last opening day with fans ?

Funny, I thought I had remembered we had three in a row, but I really couldn’t remember the third one at all.   I guess I’ve done my best to just block 2018 out of my mind entirely.    What a miserable experience that was.
