According to Chris Creamer all but the hat with the 'O's' on it is gone.

I hope this is true... I HATE the ornithogically correct bird. I've always thought it looked terrible, since the day it came out. I'd love to see a variation of the cartoon bird, or a return to the original. I highly doubt a return to the original though.

What I'm really hoping for is some type of "B" hat, the same way Boston, Detroit, etc. are represented on their hats. I'd show off a Baltimore "B" hat every day down here in South Cakalakie.

That is interesting. I wish that hat was gone as well.

Who is Chris Creamer?

He owns www.sportslogos.net

Very intelligent community when it comes to logos everywhere. Supposedly he has seen the Orioles new merchandise and they are dumping everything (in terms of hats) but the O's hat. This includes the batting practice hat, which I assume will resemble the new hat with the 'angrier looking cartoon bird.'

He didn't say that himself, someone on his board did.

Yeah, and for the reasons stated previously, I have that firmly in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category.

I've got a feeling that...we'll be very happy with the new threads and hats. Don't know why, just a gut feeling.

The ornitholgically correct bird is horrid. I liked it when it came out back in 89, but not anymore. It just ain't cool.

Looking at Chris Creamer's site,

Who knew that A's mascot was an elephant back in the day? And not even really back in the day, it says their still using one of the elephant logos.

The A's have an elephant patch on one of their sleeves. Their mascot is also one that represents an elephant.

Just what I suspect if they do change the logo: A mix between the cartoon bird and one of the fiercer birds that they used as alternate mascots.

About the uniforms, I completely agree with you. I think they'll look good, if not a tiny bit busy if they have patches on both sleeves.

About the hats, I'm not so optimistic about the concept of an "angrier, fiercer" bird. There are all sorts of things that can go horribly wrong with this sort of redesign.

Case in point:

The Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) had an awesome logo in the 1980s.

<img src=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/6c/MilwaukeeAdmirals1980s.svg/343px-MilwaukeeAdmirals1980s.svg.png></img>

Then they had a decent looking logo until 2005:

<img src=http://homepage.hamburg.de/Zimowski/StefansWeb/Bilder/Jersey-Bilder/Milwaukee%20Admirals%20-%202000-01%20-%20Away%20-%20John%20Tripp%201.jpg></img>

Then for 2006 they announced a new, "edgier" logo. This was their result:

<img src=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/99/MILadmirals.PNG></img>

This was clearly a step in the wrong direction. A whimsical, happy pirate skull.

I suppose we'll see soon enough.

I didn't become an O's fan until the early 90's but for all of you who have been around longer, I think you need to stop living in the past. Let's open a new era. NO CARTOON BIRD. No Ornithologically correect bird either. Let's go with something completely new and a little more modern and intimidating. the cartoon bird is childish. This is a new team now. An all new logo would be welcome. Even some minor color changes like the Blue Jays did a few years back wouldn't be a bad idea, maybe another shade of orange or some silver added.

I really do think that if they change the logo somehow (and it's very unlikely that they won't), that it will be something new.

It may have characteristics of the cartoon bird, but I am tending to agree with those who are naming the Blue Jays as a possible reference point. It seems like many teams are starting to use that "special digital graphics" look that you can see in the Jays logo. It has that sleek, cool look to it.

The only way the Orioles would be able to do this is to make the cartoon bird newer and sleeker, and possibly a little more intimidating. While I would love to see the cartoon bird back, I just have that feeling that the organization has to look to the future, and not think back on the past.
