What do you think of Tyler Wells?

While you're probably correct, there's nothing harder on a baseball fan of a contending team than having the bullpen blow a bunch of games.

Having said that, I'm fine with whichever direction the O's go with him.

Thank Christ, we're not a contending team then.  ;)

I'm hoping that, through free agent/trade acquisitions and promotions, the number of starters who are either expected to be reliable or deserving of a trial in the rotation will not leave room for T. Wells (the tall one without the accent) in the rotation, and that he'll start the season as the closer.

I'm not confident that will happen, but I hope it will.

Not funny, and of course, we weren't talking about this year.  At some point, it might be nice to not think like a perpetual loser.

It's pretty funny and it is entirely accurate.

Worrying about not blowing leads when we have- sans Means- the worst starting staff I think I've ever seen, is putting the cart before the horse, to say the least.

How do you not understand that I was talking about the future?

Just so we're clear:

I don't disagree with you because I have a "loser's mentality."  I don't disagree with you because I can't "understand."

I disagree with you because what you're saying is fundamentally wrong.

Worrying about the bullpen before the rotation is ass backwards.

That's all.  I'm not angry about it.  I'm not trolling you.  I'm not being disrespectful.

Saying that Wells shouldn't get a chance to start next year because contending teams need good bullpens is bad logic.

Fine, let's go 1 out at time to clear this up:

1.  I wasn't talking about you having a loser's mentality.  I was talking about team management.

2.  Skip.

3.  I did not say to put the bullpen before the rotation.  I said I'm fine with whichever way the team goes - as far as starting him or using him in the pen.

4.  Glad to hear you're not trying to be disrespectful.  That wasn't the impression I got.

5.  I didn't say Wells shouldn't get a chance to start next year.  I said I'd be fine with whatever decision the team makes.

Are we good?

We're good, man.

I personally feel strongly that Wells should get a chance to start next year.

    • I’ve got to counter that and say that Aaron Judge also got off to a slow start, and he’s by far and away the leader in the MVP race.  I love Santander, but you aren’t winning the MVP with a .700 OPS through the first two months of the season.  He plays the game very well, has improved his defense and is an important part of our team.  But, he’s not an MVP level player.  He’s very good, and we know he can go on ridiculous hot stretches. I play super deep 30 team fantasy baseball leagues and since May, I have not lost an offensive week because I have Judge and Santander.  So I know very well how hot he can get since I see it every day- and am likely to win some good money this year because of it.  At least to me, It’s pretty clear that the team is planning for Santander to walk in free agency.  With Kjerstad/Mayo/O’Hearn/Mountcastle still here, even if you pull Mountcastle in a trade this off-season, that’s still your daily ABs taken up for RF/1B/DH.  I thought there was a small chance we would re-sign Santander, but after they brought in Eflin and have $18m to pay him next year, I immediately went to the recent activity.  Hays was traded, rumors of Mullins/Mountcastle being on the block and now Santander’s pending FA.  Eflin’s contract is basically paid next year with Hays off the books, Santander a FA and a non-tender of Mullins (or a trade of either him or Mountcastle.)  Anthony has been a great story for us, and a great player and leader.  But the cold analytical side and financial side here is going to come into play.  I don’t see many scenarios where he is back next season.
    • Any reason you are comparing the two, other than that they are left handed? Rogers has more of a track record so he has a much higher floor than Povich. Kinda hard to tell much from their minors resumes since Rogers essentially skipped AAA, but Rogers had a much lower BB rate adding up to a higher K/BB even though he got lower K's. If Povich can turn his stuff into K's at the MLB level, Rogers might be the more effective overall pitcher.
    • Just the Gausman game to decide the series, we'll see if all Orioles hitters have the same command of spitting on that split Austin Hays was pretty pumped up about being able to do last time.
    • Not a stretch at all. His misses are around the zone. He hits the corners. Povich has big location misses then has to give in to batters.    Anyway I take that start as a positive step. Ben mentioned he is making some mechanical changes to get back to 2021 form. He’s faced two lineups that do not strikeout and are built to face LHP. Toronto’s top 3 hitters are all RHH and Cleveland has 4 guys Fry, Thomas, Ramirez, and Noel who crush LHP. Put him in Camden Yards with Cowser in LF and I think he becomes a better pitcher.
    • Yea, concussions and the brain are an in exact science.  I’ve seen guys be fine for a week or two after a concussion then all of a sudden they get an onset of symptoms.  If I was Kjerstad I might not say anything either though and try to push through.  Has to be tough on a young guy.     Everyone responds different to the treatment as well.  Hopefully with some rest and no pressure of needing to play he can get back.
    • True.   It was something a giddy (and probably now unemployed) Marlins official said hyping a draftee soon after using a 1st rounder on a high school pitcher. Sigbot's move is to wait and see if that character is even in organized baseball 7 years later.
    • As technology progresses, I think some type of smart goggles/glasses will solve the problem of umpires’ inaccuracy of calling balls and strikes.   Apparently, industry has been working on it for a few years .  That’s probably more palatable for the umpire’s union than robo umps or replay challenges for balls and strikes.
