I would be angry if they tried him at both. A good recipe for a TJ surgery. Stick the big fella at catcher. Some 1.8 pop times and pretty good feet back there. We’ll see if that lasts.

I'd try him at catcher first and then third base if that experiment fails.  Can he run well enough to play the OF?  Don't want to waste that arm at first base or DH.

It's not hard for most 19 year olds to lose weight if they try.

They should have told him that drafting him and his $1 million bonus depended on him dropping 30 lbs

It will be interesting to see how this guy responds to proper conditioning and lifting along with an improved diet.  Just don’t cut that hair!

He does not appear so overweight that he can't stick behind the dish or play a corner position effectively.  He's probably never dieted or been under a real structured conditioning regiment his entire life.  Also, you can be 20-30 pounds overweight and still meet the conditioning requirements that it takes to play in the MLB.  This isn't the NBA. 

Miguel Cabrera and Vlad Guerrero Jr. are too examples I can think of off hand.  Those guys have always been 20-30 pounds overweight, and perhaps I'm being generous.  The daily grind at catcher is sure to take off some of the bad weight alone without any significant changes to his diet.

Now that the college guys have mostly cleared out, I expect we’ll see Willems.
