We have had that team on the field and it is above 500 without Tejada's glove or bat. I think the team is playing better without him at short. So it is not proving me wrong but proving me right. While not the only reason it is playing better (Dave Trembley is doing a great job) the added defense has shown to be a big help IMO.

In July on average -

Team ERA = 3.80 per game

Team runs = 4.45 per game

That's why the team is better...

Since you think Trembley is doing "a great job" you no doubt will expect him to move Tejada to full-time DH when he comes off the DL... right?

(I'm pretty impressed with Trembley too by the way - but I expect he'll be penciling in Tejada at short like he should)

I can't decide if these threads are more exasperating, comic relief, or a primer on ballplayer valuation. Maybe a little of each.

You know what they've reminded me of?

Dr. Kelso: And I'll be damned if he doesn't disagree with everything I say just because I said it.

J.D.: Sir, I don't think that's true.

[Kelso turns over]

Dr. Kelso: It's hotter than hell in here, Perry!

Dr. Cox: Freezing!

Dr. Kelso: Great coffee, though!

Dr. Cox: Rat piss!

Dr. Kelso: Dr. Murphy here is an incompetent suck-up!

Dr. Cox: No, Bob, in fact he's one of the finest young doctors I ever had the good fortune of working with.

Dr. Kelso: [to J.D] Your witness.

Your post defies logic because the only reason Tejada is valued anyway is his hitting which is the same no matter where you field him or as a DH. His defense is of little value when it is easily noted there are three guys on his own team that play the position better. Again, I see no loss to the ORIOLES by retaining Tejada's bat at third or fourth no matter whether he DH's or plays the outfield or even first base. How in God's name does he now lower his hitting to that of Kevin Millar? Please explain that one?:eek:

Millar: .270, 9 HR, 41 RBI

Tejada, .306, 7 HR, 41 RBI

Looking a little deeper, Millar out OBPs Tejada .386 to .360, outslugs Tejada .433 to .423, out ISOs Tejada 163 to 117, has taken 25 more walks and has hit more home runs.

The problem with the Orioles is and has long been that Kevin Millar is their best left-spectrum(Corner OF, 1B, DH) hitter and probably the best one they've had in years(outside of Nick Markakis). Tejada isn't, in a raw numbers sort of way, any better a hitter than Kevin Millar, but since he's a shortstop, he is way, way better than most shortstops, because most shortstops hit like crap.

ETA: Oh, and just go ahead and imagine that I've peppered this post liberally with phrases like "You're wrong", "I'm right", "Do you watch baseball ever?", "Have you ever played baseball?", "This is all so blindingly, screamingly obvious that I'm starting to have concerns over your ability to read and comprehend things", etc.

No one can convince me that the O's defense isn't better with Tejada back in the line-up.

No one can convince me that the O's defense isn't better with Fahey back in the line up.

No one can convince me that the O's defense won't be better with Blake Davis roaming the SS position in '10

No one can convince me that the O's defense won't be better with Tyler Henson roaming the SS position in '11

No one can convince me that the O's defense won't be better with xxxxxxxxxxx roaming the SS position besides Tejada.

You know what this thread reminds me of? Juan Bell. Remember the loony idea of moving Cal to third so that Juan Bell could play short? Hard to think back and come up with any rational justification for that one, and Bell was 10 times the player Luis Hernandez was, while Tejada is about 90% the player Cal was.

Juan Bell had nearly an .800 OPS in AAA at the age of 20, and a reputation as a very good defensive shortstop, and it still didn't make a lick of sense. Good thing the Orioles realized it before it was too late.

You can scoff, laugh, and ridicule all you want, but it is beyond dispute that the team looks a lot better now defensively without Tejada being out there at short. It remains to be seen when he returns if that same sharp, crisp, defense will remain or will we start seeing a reversion to sloppy, botched double plays and extra unnecessary runs scored by the opposition because of it. Time will tell, but I wouldn't be laughing too much because this team is playing its best ball in years right now without Tejada. So really how much was he adding to the team previously? I personally don't think he has been missed, and the W-L record says so as well. You can spin it any way you want but that is a fact.

You know what else looks leaps and bounds better? The bullpen. Was Tejada drugging our relievers?
