I counted 10 swinging strikes on MiLB. 3 by Hassell.

What an exciting development!  I’m gonna go back and watch that game.  I saw he was starting but didn’t have time to watch last night.  I guess Elias wasn’t blowing smoke when he made those strong comments on his ability.

Well look..He was drafted out of college and is an older guy playing in A ball.

I think you obviously like what he did but my excitement about him And the realization of whether Elias’ comments are true or not will come as he moves up the ladder.

If he is pitching at a high level in AA and AAA, that’s where we get really start to get excited.  I hope they can get him to AA this year and let him get some starts up there.

Elias was in the booth today for an inning and he specifically mentioned Povich as someone who could move through the system fast and could impact the major league team next year.

He talked about how some college pitchers see a drop in their velo when they turn pro and start having to pitch more than once a week, while others see an improvement in their velocity.   He cited it as a reason he likes to trade for guys who wer college pitchers a year or two after they were drafted, he can get a better read on what they really are going to be like.

Interesting.  Iirc, the drop in velo is something Matusz experienced.

Thanks for sharing this nugget which basically sits at the core of the strategy we've seen. That is, draft and develop our own college or advanced HS hitters for maximum floor and minimum attrition; and let other teams sort through their pitching inventory so we can lean over the fence and then pluck those we see have optimum chances of success in our system.
