Not bringing in Hader to face their best hitters is dumb but it’s not laying down a bunt with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th dumb in order to bring up your number 9 hitter.

Josh Donaldson seems to have come a fair bit along the Aaron "up there begging for a walk" Hicks path, watching a 3-2 pitch way too good to take for the first out in the 8th.

Last night was the 5th consecutive postseason game between the Astros and Phillies to go into extra innings.

The previous 4 were the last 4 games of the 1980 NLCS, one one of the all time great LCS's from the best-of-5 LCS era.

The 1980 NLCS was incredibly good tense baseball to watch. I loved that Houston team: Very few home runs (I see now that Terry Puhl's 13 was the tops), but lots of speed (six guys with 21-48 stolen bases), bunches of singles and doubles, and slick D (Cesar Cedeno, Jose Cruz, Joe Morgan et al). Very balanced starting rotation (J. Niekro, Nolan Ryan, a very young JR Richards, Vern Ruhle, Ken Forsch). Really enjoyed that series and was sad to see the Astros eliminated.

At least they are making an effort to start these games just a couple minutes past 8.  I think in past years the games actually started around 8:20.

Last night still ran past midnight.  But it's something.

Too bad Mancini appears to be riding the bench for the rest of the Series.  Dusty Baker really didn’t want the deal in the first place.

No he did some when he was traded but even when he was hitting better then, Baker still sat him more than one would think. 
 

Trey in that first game looked as bad as I have ever seen him at the plate.

Baker being again totally outmanaged .. how do you let this guy who has zero stuff tonight stay out there for 5 home runs ? (I was typing this after 4th, then 5th)

Baker always seems to manage postseason games like it’s the first game of a double header in June. No sense of urgency and maximum trust in sticking with veterans. Works well for a long season with a talented team of veterans but always seems to bite him hard in the postseason.
