Mountcastle’s bad luck from last year seems to be holding.   Last year he had a .316 wOBA, .362 xwOBA.  This year so far it’s .338 wOBA, .406 xwOBA.   I have to believe at some point his luck will turn.  He’s in the 92nd percentile in exit velocity, 95th percentile in barrel %.

Of course, when it comes to plate discipline, he remains his own worst enemy, 2nd percentile in chase rate.

It almost feels like he should stop trying to hit fly balls at home. Just level the swing and go for base hits.

It’s not just happening at home.  He had some well hit balls in that Texas series, too.

I think when the weather heats up a lot of these long flies are going to be clearing fences. In the meantime, his OPS+ is at 120.   I still think he’s in for a good season if he just keeps hitting the ball the way he is.  Of course, as always, I’d love for him to do a better job of laying off pitches that aren’t strikes.

Yeah. As far as our issues go, Mounty is not very high on my list. As long as he's hitting the ball hard, he will find some success.

I remember Murray’s 9 RBI game.  It was against the (then) California Angels.  He was 4-4 with 3 homers and 9 RBI’s in just 6 innings! I think he ended 4-6 but could be wrong.

I was looking to find video of it. Found the WaPo writeup. Pretty cool stuff, August of ‘85. 3 homers for Eddie that day. Like Mountcastle, got the 9th RBI on a grand slam.

I found video of one of the home runs from This Week In Baseball.
