Four innings in to a somewhat  mediocre Grayson Rodriguez start and you can't convince me that he isn't a better option than at least three current members of our starting rotation. There is absolutely no reason he should be sent back down once Bradish comes off the IL. Not if this is a team that is legtimately done tanking / playing for draft picks.

I wouldn’t call it mediocre, I’d say it’s clear he is inexperienced. He’s doing some good things out there, but he needs to hone his stuff.
It’s a stark contrast to what deGrom is doing out there. I’ve always known he was good, but this is bananas. Just wow.

Final line of 5.0 IP 4 H 2 ER 1 BB 5 K

Can't expect much better than that given how he'd been going lately. The fastball was great, getting 8 whiffs with good command, and the occasional curveball was solid. Other two pitches weren't as effective but there were a couple of great sliders.

Normally, I'd like to see him go back out to start the 6th, but given he wasn't great in the spring or in his first start of AAA, I'm glad to see him get out of there on a great note. Unfortunately, I have no confidence in Voth.

Certainly better than most of us were expecting. I'm glad he had a good outing, and hopefully he can gain some confidence from it.

I'm not sure what was going on with him during spring training but maybe he can get some extra coaching between starts while he's in Baltimore.

Pleased with that outing particularly after the 1st inning. I liked that in a couple innings he let runners on early but got out of it.

And the final pitch count was impressive given the 30 pitch first.

He earned a home start vs Oakland next week.

I bet he stays up thru 2 more starts at least. Get to Nats series and 2 off days and see where you are.

I agree if GRod keeps pitching well then he's going to be on the team the whole season. One issue will be is how the team manages around the innings cap they've set for him this season especially if this team is a playoff contender.

Who do you remove from the rotation for him though? Wells was the logical choice before the season started but he pitched incredible the other day and will be hard to remove if he continues to look good.

If no one completely implodes over their next two starts it would be a tough decision. Irvin maybe? Feel like they’re invested in having him and Gibson in the rotation because they are “proven vets”.

Grayson is likely to get two more starts just because of the DL move.  I think he will earn his spot or get sent back based on performance.  It's not a bad problem to have.  If he earns it, whoever is weakest goes down.  Survival of the fittest.

We're on the same page and the folks who are even suggesting that he should be sent back down or that he has more to prove to earn a rotation spot are absolutely nuts. Bump Kremer, Irvin or Wells to the pen (flip a coin). The only two who should be safe are Gibson and Bradish.

I think Rodriguez ia already a better option (and gives us a better chance to win) than Kremer, Irvin and Wells. None of those pitchers should be standing in his way.

I agree. I’m just wondering who is the most likely to exit the rotation. Hopefully the decision is based upon performance/upside and not other factors. Bradish and Kremer have both earned their spots IMO. Gibson is the anchor so probably between Irvin and Wells.

    • I don't doubt his stuff.   I doubt his command.
    • Language like “…salvage the season” is beginning to appear which is more than a little premature. I share the concern about having enough pitching for the postseason.
    • Suarez needs to go the bullpen and he could definitely help there in a long/middle relief role. Suarez's fastball is averaging 95 MPH this year maybe pitching in relief and can add 2 to 3 more MPH when he needs it.
    • The trade deadline is a while freaking month from now, plus a few more days. I know it’s hard to believe because this board can’t go thirty minutes without discussing a trade and the Trade Deadline thread was created a long time ago (lol) but come on. Why are you convinced Elias will do nothing? Angelos is gone. There’s no reason to expect he will have to go to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet this time.
    • I floated this idea the other day.  Going to try a slight different version today. For Crochet,  Kjerstad, Norby, DeLeon For Fedde,  Bradfield, McDermott, Chace 1. Feel free to call them overpays or underpays 2. Do the White Sox say no? I think those are two strong packages or one overall very strong package.  I think the Crochet deal is clearly stronger than the Burnes deal was at the time for a pitcher with more control but durability questions. We still hold onto our top 3.  They can try to manage Crochet’s workload if they/you believe in that.  Bottom line, we strongly upgrade the starting staff.       Burnes, GRod, Crochet, Kremer, Fedde.   You’re back to having depth with Irvin to the pen and Povich to AAA.   You can use Crochet as an opener to manage his innings. We still have chips like Beavers, Willems, Baumeister, Fabian to get rental relievers. Of course, this guts a lot of top and mid level prospects but it keeps Basallo, Holliday, and Mayo here.  With the upcoming draft, and the Latin program showing real progress in the lower minors, I think there’s no doubt we can take the position player hit.  Losing McDermott and DeLeon is tough but if you get two starters from the Sox you have to send some arms back.
    • Teams have slumps, with or without injuries.  Add in a beyond belief amount of injuries,  and you have the 2024 Orioles.
    • Elias plan is pretty simple and has been executed to near perfection.  Give the team as wide a window as possible to be a playoff participant and build a team capable of winning the whole thing if things break their way.   Based on the last several post seasons the team that hits the most home runs in any given series has won that series.  I think he has accomplished those goals. This organization is setup to have a 3-5 year run as a world series contender.  I have no issue with the plan or even the overall execution and anyone who does is not seeing the bigger picture in my opinion.
