Looks like this is how the rotation shakes out

Yesterday on the broadcast they were saying that Gibson lines up for the opening day start. If true, going off the next 4 games, the rotation shakes out thusly:

Gibson
Bradish
Irvin
Kremer
Rodriguez

Looks pretty solid to me. At the very least, for the moment, you feel like you have a shot each game. Definitely think Bradish's pure stuff and incredible 2nd half warrants the #2. I like the lefty in the middle and the rookie at #5.

I don't think it's out of the question that Grayson starts in Triple A with Wells taking that last spot in the rotation.

They may want him to work on his breaking ball command.

The problem with this is if Wells gets off to a hot start it will be tough to remove him and the other four are entrenched, at least for the first two months of the season.

It's not out of the question but it's pretty doubtful IMO. If he's struggling I'd rather see them utilize a quick hook and back him up with Wells. The guy has nothing left to prove in AAA, you gotta let him take his lumps a little bit.

I doubt they’d skip him.

I could see them using him as an opener along with another starter or pitching out of the bullpen. We know he is going to be innings-limited so probably better to ramp him up slowly, especially the way he has pitched in the spring.

Granted, I think that the OD starter nomination is a bit overblown and overhyped but I'd like to see a guy who was here last year get it instead of some newcomer.

Yes, I'm aware Sutcliffe had the Opening Day '92 shutout against Cleveland but he's had a bit better of a career than Gibson.

But Gibson has had a better career than any of our starting pitchers, and has had a very good spring.  I’m fine with him getting the nod and agree that it’s not really a big deal any way they do it.

Biggest surprised for me is Bradish at #2, ahead of the veteran Irvin and Kremer who was more consistent last year. Not going to quibble though, they are four averageish starters (plus Grayson) who could go anywhere in the rotation. I agree, they should keep us in games consistently even if no one guy is dominant. Ready for games that count!

I think you just stay with the five-man rotation and give guys the extra rest instead of sending Grayson down. He's going to be one of the faces of the franchise within the next couple of years, let him experience his first big league opening day in Baltimore get to work in the big leagues.

They will need a 5th starter by April 6 - there are 5 consecutive games from April 1-5. Gibson could go on Opening Day and then either April 5 @ Texas or April 6 at home v. Yankees.  Grayson will pitch the other game.

With Hall pitching today, if they have him on a SP schedule he’s lined up to pitch again Sat April 25, and then again either Opening Day March 30 (or extra rest game 2 April 1). That would line him up to next piggyback Grayson’s start on April 5/6.
