Yep, piss poor job by Elias here late in the year. He knows he had a 17 game stretch coming. He knows he has some young starters. He knows all this yet has no bulk relievers.

Its because he does not want to put guys on the 40 man when he does not have to.  He really isnt going "all in" on the season.  Long term issues always win out it seems.

There is no long reliever. None to just eat innings and save the pen. Instead now Hyde is using his pen like Tony LaRussa but tries to do it from the 6th inning on when LaRussa did it 7th and 8th inning.

Good point about Lopez.  Why not just waive him at this point.  He isn’t likely to be picked up and you can get afresh arm.
