Way too much. I don’t see a problem with Bradish, Grayson, Means, Wells, Kremer. With Irvin, Hall, and Zimmerman as depth. I actually look forward to that rotation. I’m not longing for Luzardo or Cease. We could just sign Dave Robertson if we desperately want a Wells type SU man.

Yankees are adding Soto. Blue Jays could be adding Ohtani. I don’t think the Os should rely on that starting rotation without one more piece.

With that said, at first glance that package of players seems steep. I don’t know if anyone can opine on them or what a comparable offer from us could be.

We’re adding Holliday and Mayo. Plus, more experienced versions of all of our young guys. 24-5 year olds get better.  30 years olds need PEDs for that.

Remember, this is being reported as what CWS asked for.  If so, the Reds obviously said no, since there's been no deal.  We don't have to offer CWS a better deal than what another team refused to pay.

I am.

San Diego is asking for a lot for a one year rental that's going to be making 30M.

Right.  Plus, Soto in a big LF, Judge replacing the better defender Bader in CF (I assume), and Verdugo in RF.  If the Yanks give up King, who did pretty good in the rotation, and others it doesn’t bother me too much.

Unfortunately the media slobbers over Cease nonstop so the perception of him being better than he is is very real.

His numbers do not justify sending 4 top prospects in return. Not even close.

No one ever suggested 4 top prospects.

I’m excited for the position players. I like the upside of the rotation.

I think the fact that they listed a top 3 SP tells us that they don’t want to rely on Wells or anyone else internally for the 5th spot. Wells addressed his conditioning last offseason, acknowledging it held him back, and he was still only able to make it half a season after working at it last winter. Going into the season assuming you have to add a high end SP in late July just isn’t a smart choice IMO.

Is it?  Lowder is #41 on MLB.com and Petty is not in the top 100.  We have been discussing Cowser and Ortiz (I don't know where you stand on that but seemed the majority would do it) which is MLB #14 and #50.  Seems like maybe Cowser and Hall plus some lower level guys would be a better offer.

Them asking for Holliday last year was unreasonable.  Sounds like they are much more in a reasonable ballpark.

If they want pitching to headline the deal, the Os aren’t getting Cease.

OTOH, none of these teams have met their asking price yet, so maybe the WS are going to get less than they think.

Good move on a one-year deal. But I can't help thinking that it means the quest to land a high-salaried top-end starter (I don't know exactly what I mean by that, but it would certainly include EdRod) is over.

And it would be nice if Kimbrel's contract required that he take the sign, look toward home plate, and remain in "a normal major league position" until he releases the ball.  Or at least require that he give it a try in ST.

Haha.  The WS fans on their message board are calling it a huge haul although our friend hasn’t chimed in yet.
