Saw why you want about JA but that’s a pretty classy statement by him. Granted he managed to pay himself on the back quite a bit, but nothing he said ok that front was really wrong either.

Nor should he be dedicating his time to a press conference for a baseball team right now.

His handlers will almost certainly dedicate the opening of the press conference to the Key bridge, but I agree, he better be careful.

He shouldn't be standing up there with a new owner like Youngkin did with Leonsis in Virginia. That might have been appropriate, but not after yesterday.

It was self-serving but suddenly I'm in a generous mood for some reason.  Best wishes to you on your ride into the sunset, JA.

I really don't care about dedicating the opening of the press conference to the Key Bridge, or what Younkin did in VA. That is all meaningless politicking.

Currently, one of the main hubs of economic activity and jobs in the state is shut down. It should be a full time job handling the logistics of getting it re-opened as soon as possible.

So not only is it a bad "look", It actually takes time and resources away from handling something much more important for the state.

It was fine. But I do find the contrast from that statement and the video message from Rubenstein to be in stark contrast. One was very look what I did and the other was more about the fans. Neither was wrong. And JA's statement was fine, but I did notice a stark difference...and one that I'm excited to see continue to play out.

Easily the best birthday gift I could have ever gotten.

I've said many times that the day the Angelos family sells the team would be second only to an ensuing World Series championship. This is such a good day and such a good feeling. 2023 couldn't have been a better springboard into this new regime. I feel like the possibilities are endless. We are extremely good already, and I have no reason to think we aren't on the verge of becoming significantly better.

Here's a little clip from ESPN's pre-season prediction article:

It's going to be a hell of a ride in 2024, and I can't wait to see what lies ahead.

Happiest of birthdays!!!!!!

I hear the Lerners tried to vote twice. 😎

Is it true they couldn't find a buyer for the team because of MASN? Thats pretty impressive the power Angelos held over that franchise.

    • 7 saves, 2 were with a 3 run lead. I guess you're right.
    • My original goal was to see if anyone had more value than Gunner in his first 208 games as an Oriole at the start of his career. But the span finder in Stathead doesn't do WAR. Rettenmund hit better, but was worth 6.1 rWAR in his first 232 games. Blefary was an okay LFer, so no. Sheets was a essentially a DH. Rutschman may have done it. His pace has been 7.7 rWAR per 208. Cal was sort of close, but hurt by that start. Through 182 games he was sitting on 4.2. Eddie was held back by being a DH a lot in his first year or two. So I'm pretty confident that the two most valuable Orioles through their first ~1.5 seasons are Henderson and Rutschman.
    • As an aside, I was shocked how bad Bumbry’s second full year was when I looked it up following my guesses.  .898 as a rookie, then .592.   I also forgot that Jim Gentile had a couple of cups of coffee in other orgs before his rookie year in Baltimore, so he didn’t qualify for the list.
    • Last year at Bowie he was 109/288 (37.8%).   This year he’s at 21/64 (32.8%).   So, that’s progress.  He’s always going to strike out a lot.
    • You got Rutschman, he's 5th at .799. • Fine for 3 run save opportunities
    • No one saves 100%. Kimbrel will be fine overall.
