Not sure why Mounty is getting more flack than Santander right now.

People have been waiting a month and a half to turn him back into the whipping boy.

I'm guessing there must not be an "Anthony Santander 2024" thread....lol.

Mounty isn't really catching that much flack in this thread. The main comment is that Ryan is who he is at this point...a streaky, low OBP hitter with some pop. He's amazing to watch when he's on a hot streak, but can have extended slumps where he looks pretty bad at the plate. He and Santander are similar in many ways. But so far the Monty flack has been pretty light.

Is Mountcastle the player who's at risk for being replaced by top O's prospects?  Mayo can obviously play 1B.  Kjerstad has some ability there (argued about in various threads) plus can play DH.  With O'Hearn already locked up for next year, is Mountcastle the most likely veteran to be traded?  I am assuming O's don't give Santander a QO.

I don't see Mountcastle going anywhere and expect he'll be on the team next year. Maybe at some point he ends up not being an everyday player, but I think Santander will be gone next year and depending on trade deadline moves we could see a top prospect or two traded.

I think he is most at risk from Mayo. Both RHB power hitters with no real spot other than 1B/DH, and they can't platoon with each other. Mayo could maybe play 3B but Westburg is doing well there. Westburg could shift to 2B, but Mateo is playing well and even if he stops hitting his versatility is needed to cover a variety of other positions. At the end of the day, it seems like Mountcastle is the one blocking Mayo.

Worth a check-in again as he's been heating back up. 129 OPS+, but stuck on 6 homers. He's going the other way a lot and I wonder if he's just straight up decided to change his profile as a hitter and shoot for higher average over home runs. Or if it's just a homerless stretch.

When he starts going to right field that has usually meant he is using the entire field and seeing the ball well and just a matter of time before he is about to go on a tear.

Those poor bastards.  He’s about to make them his bitch again.

Btw, in the 4 game series against the Jays last year (July 31-Aug. 3rd), it is insane that Mountcastle hit for an .846(!) avg with an OPS of 1.932!
