Horrible, I cannot believe our pitching is that bad...

How do you score 8 runs and loose?

Castillo, Chiasson, and crew are obviously nobodies that are not a concern but Sherill and Uehara provide a much different story. They not only pitched bad but they pitched terrible, Sherill tends to start hot and then fall apart and that needs to change, it is now a trend, and Uehara looked almost like a real deal number two until he could not even get through three innings today. Sure it is spring training but seriously, this is our number two, I don't mind him giving up runs and all that but he needs to get through the third at this point, seriously.

One knock on Trembley, are there really not other guys than these scrubs we could get innings for?

This might be the Silliest Post Ever. The O's pitching has been quite good in Spring Training so far. They've allowed 39 earned runs in 11 games, plus very good performances vs. Italy and the Dominican Republic. So Keefer and Aquino blew a 4-run lead -- do you expect to see either one on the staff? Meanhile this is the first outing where Uehara has had any trouble, and ditto Sherrill.

I watched the game today and IMO Uehara was being squeezed by the ump. He wasn't particularly wild. He was having problems with his curveball, but he has been since he got here, because of the different ball. If Wigginton makes the play on the slow grounder he gets out of the inning without that much damage.

I believe that was Castillo. It just looked like a lefthanded Aquino.

Its March 9th.

And this is evidence that Sherrill has developed a trend?

COME ON man!

No, he did this all last year.

4.73 ERA is horrible. He really has one good year of setup to his credit. And before you blame the defense his FIP was a four year worst 4.33, the worst since his first year in the majors. YES, I said trend, did you watch last season?

    • No hitter through 6.  1 walk,  11 strikeouts but pitch count is around 100.  Will they bring him out for the 7th (Pirates lead 8-0)?
    • Means vs. Miller (3-3, 2.66 ERA) ? vs. Castillo (4-5, 3.31 ERA) ? vs. Kirby (4-3, 3.58 ERA) Miller faced the O’s twice last year, allowing 3 runs in 4.1  IP the first time, 2 runs (1 ER) in 5.2 the second time.   Castillo allowed 1 run in 6 IP when we saw him in 2023.  Kirby faced us twice, allowing 3 runs (2 ER) in 6.1 innings the first time, and pitching a complete game, 3 hit shutout the second time, in which he faced only two batters over the minimum.    The O’s haven’t named their starters for Saturday and Sunday.  Irvin and Kremer are our most rested starters, but  Burnes also would be available by Sunday, and there has been talk that Grayson Rodriguez could be activated without a rehab appearance.   The Mariners are averaging 3.82 runs per game, 23rd in MLB, though they’re better on the road at 4.21 runs/game.  They have a 98 OPS+, 17th in MLB.  Their top hitters this year have been Josh Rojas (134 OPS+),  Cal Raleigh (120 OPS+, 10 HR, 24 RBI), Luke Raley (118 OPS+) and Dylan Moore (104 OPS+).  Julio Rodriguez has been quiet so far at 91 OPS+.   Seattle’s bullpen has the 8th best ERA in baseball at 3.27, slightly topped by the Orioles’ 3.23.   Our old friend Austin Voth has been a mainstay for the Mariners, posting a 3.12 ERA and 1.039 WHIP in 17.1 IP.  Andres Muñoz has been an effective closer, posting a 1.47 ERA with 11.8 K/9, saving 7 against 1 blown save.    With the Seattle starters and bullpen and relatively mediocre offense, and the O’s recent offensive slump and strong pitching, this figure as a low-scoring series, but we’ll see.
    • Broadcast gun had Paul Skenes at 100 on pitch 100 as he notched his 11th strikeout wrapping up 6 no-hit innings. Pirates bullpen under the gun to continue it if they can.
    • O'Hearn's statcast percentile bars are insane.  He's not swinging at balls out of the zone, he's squaring up everything, and he rarely whiffs.  I don't think I've ever seen a guy look this bad through his mid-20s and then flip a switch at 29/30.
    • I like the Smashburgers from Baseline Burgers, and also the tacos at Vida Taco Bar.
    • No hitter through 5.  1 walk,  10 K's on 81 pitches versus the Cubbies.  Not too shabby.
