He’s been terrible, according to baseball savant, and terrible starters become relievers. And of course if you can solve a problem in-house that’s what you do. ATM they have no one among their own pitching prospects who can provide help this season, so no reason not to put your 6-7 SPs in the pen, which, BTW, is exactly what we were going to do with Wells, for example, and are now doing with Irvin. -

Don't worry about Vlad this year. We'll make a big push to sign him when he's a free agent, come up short, but then have the last laugh when he comes to Baltimore for one last season in 2035. -
Would Scherzer(40 and David Robertson (39) be enough for the O's to win the World Series? If they are healthy and pitching well at the deadline. O's trade Norby, Beavers, Stowers, Nunez and Portes. Too much? Too little? What do you think? -

There's something I've never quite understood, but there are a number of pitchers from the 1970s who were reasonably successful despite terrible strikeout and walk numbers. Mike Torrez. Stanhouse. Jesse Jefferson. Mike LaCoss. Greg Minton. They didn't just walk as many as they K'd, they also didn't really K anybody, like 3-4 per nine. They weren't great, but somehow they got by. I think in that era there were enough terrible hitting middle infielders and big astroturf parks they could pitch around the real hitters, and try to not give up too many homers and usually made it work. But I have a feeling that today anybody trying that would get annihilated. -

I'm sure there's a group at Mariner's Hangout who just knows this team doesn't have it, the front office stinks, the players are under-performing, any day they'll be passed by the Astros, and it's time to rebuild for '27. Get what you can for whatever assets are there before it inevitably comes crashing down. See: some part of Orioles Hangout pretty much every year from '12-16. -
He had "shoulder fatigue" earlier this season. Maybe it's lingering. I wouldn't want him pitching through it for us at 11 million dollars or whatever they would have to pay from his 22 million this year, then hope he's the great Gausman from a couple of years ago from ages 34-36. -
