I assume it's because Flexen has had extreme reverse splits for the entirety of his career.   RH batters have OPS'ed .869 off him.

Adley wasn't going to catch tonight and then catch again in the day game after the night game tomorrow.   So if he's just going to catch one of the two games, probably they felt tomorrow was the better day.   I haven't looked at Fedde's splits but reverse splits as pronounced as Flexen's are rare.

Of course Adley could still have DH'd tonight but that would take O'Hearn out of the lineup (assuming you definitely want Mounty in the lineup vs the reverse RH guy).
