I posted the AL earlier but forgot to add the NL.  If the Cubs have indeed made it known that they are sellers, I've added them to the blue highlighted 'likely sellers list'.  The more sellers, the merrier.

  • The Blue Jays striking any significant deal with the rival O's seems less likely than other clubs, but anything is possible.
  • The Rangers have veteran starters Max Scherzer and Nathan Eovaldi that may draw the O's interest.
  • The Tigers have starters Tarik Skubal and, gulp, Jack Flaherty that may interest Elias.
  • The Angels could offer lefty veteran starter Tyler Anderson, veteran closer/reliever Carlos Estevez, and perhaps RHH COF Taylor Ward.
  • The A's have guys that would be of help, if available, in closer Mason Miller and reliever Lucas Erceg.
  • The White Sox could offer starter/reliever Garrett Crochet, starter Erick Fedde, and reliever Michael Kopech.  CF Luis Robert Jr. seems unlikely for us but should be mentioned.
  • The Cubs could offer starter Jamison Taillon.
  • The Marlins have lefty closer Tanner Scott and that's about all I see, as far as fits.
  • The Rockies have veteran starter Cal Quantrill and lefty reliever Jalen Beeks to offer.

I think Tampa could be realistic and sell

Which is why it’s not getting done. You are willing to overlook the warts. I doubt Elias would ….. look at the Cease deal. They got Thorpe #4 (#64 of the top 100), a RP that has a 3 era so far this year, and 2 DSL kids ..one of which was their #7.

So this year that’s Kjerstad/Mayo, Norby , Armbruester, and a DSL Kid.

Honestly, you feel Crochet is worth more than Cease? Because that’s what you’d be doing. Based on injury risk abd stuff …I don’t. I’d say Norby, Arias, Nolan Hoffman, and a 20 year old DSL player is more than fair

I’d say that Ortiz and Hall was fair for one year of Burnes.  Those are two, top 10 Oriole, and top 100 type prospects.   Doesn’t matter that Getz got for Cease before ST, after we got Burnes, and he took the best deal out there.   There are going to be multiple teams in on Crochet.   The Dodgers already made an offer.   Crochet is an elite, albeit risky, acquisition.   However, from the WS perspective it makes no sense to trade him a deal headlined by Norby.   Norby is a second piece and Arias is a third.   You just left out the main piece.      The WS need to do better than that.

P.S.  We kept talking about Cease and not paying for the 2022 Cease.   Crochet is better than the 2022 Cease.   You just don’t know what you can expect regarding his workload in the second half.

Tyler Anderson or Scherzer, Tanner Scott, and Trevor Richard’s would be a nice group of trade deadline moves and nit cost any of the top guys.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers have already made an offer to the White Sox for Crochet. While specifics on the proposal weren’t revealed, the White Sox rejected the offer and informed clubs they want prospects with “enormous upside” in exchange for Crochet.

The Dodgers’ trade offer for Crochet might’ve been weaker than Chicago wanted for a key reason. Crochet is already way past his previous career-high (54.1) in innings pitched at the major-league level. It’s already been reported that any MLB team acquiring Crochet would likely need to reduce his innings and potentially use him out of the bullpen in October.

Chicago is setting a high asking price with the valuation of Crochet as a front-line starter on the verge of earning his first All-Star selection. However, the team that acquires him likely knows Crochet either can’t be a starting pitcher through October or his innings will need to be limited another way.

Fortunately, Chicago is still committed to trading Crochet after the two sides couldn’t agree to terms on a long-term deal. Los Angeles has the farm system to meet the White Sox demands, but whether or not the two sides can find a middle ground and make a deal will depend on the Dodgers’ comfort level with a plan to limit Crochet’s workload

Prospects with Enormous upside. Getz will probably ask for 2 of 3 …Holiday, Basallo and or Mayo, Plus more

Elias isn’t doing anything close to that for 2 years of control

He’s not.  Never said he would.  I don’t think he’d give up any of the top 3-4 let alone two of them.  You have to take this stuff with a grain of salt.   Bowden and Nightengale also had him asking for the moon with Cease.   He didn’t get the moon.

Enormous upside is in the eye of the beholder.   Getz could spin Kjerstad, S. Johnson, and Liranzo as 3 players with enormous upside.  Don’t go overboard.    We aren’t giving 2 top prospects in the top 20 overall and not sure how many other teams even have that.

Tanner Scott has a bunch of teams on him. We aren't the only team looking for pen help and he will not be cheap.

The WS would have gotten more for Cease if they had traded him at the 2022 deadline.  I believe they were in the wild card race so that wouldn't have been likely.  I think they could have gotten a package led by a top 20 prospect.  Of course what team is going to trade their ace when their in the wild card race.
