So we just gave away our best utility player for nothing? Too bad they don't have the cajones to do that with players we have no use for.

They definitely would have dumped a bunch of other guys had they been claimed. They would have to eat salaries to release guys and the O's don't seem to like doing that. They let Gomez go because the Indians are going to pay the rest of his salary, plus they gave us $20k.

Oh, well now that we are rolling in the dough, let's get Weiters signed, eh?

Yeah, that 20k is going to really put us up with the big spenders this offseason. And I seriously doubt we owed much of Gomez's 850k salary to HAVE to dump it on someone else. Dumb move.

No one said we had to dump his salary. We probably owed something like $275k. Not killing us, obviously. But Gomez also isn't taking us anywhere this season and he's a free agent if we want him back. Let the Indians pay him and give him a shot at a ring while we see if any of our younger scrubs can break .700 and take the utility spot.

It's one of those moves that won't really mean much either way, but it just seems like a pointless move. We dump a guy who can play every IF position well, so that we can call up another OF to add to Markakis, Patterson, Payton, Huff, Gibbons, etc. Where does Redman find playing time?

Something has to give..right?

Like what? They claimed Gomez. We aren't going anywhere this year. He isn't part of our future. We must not have gotten a better offer. $20k > $0k. We let him go. Looks to me like that's all there is to it.
