Morosi is an idiot. Comparing Soto and Skubal is insane. Soto has a top 20 OPS all time and WS championship.

And more of a sure thing and, btw that trade looks terrible even if the Pads did re-coup some prospects.

The Nats are a lot closer to 2022 Orioles because of that trade. Throw in the new draft rules they should have ended with one of the top picks this year.

I challenged Morosi or any other Yankees “super fan” to show me the trade in which a team got back a Soto-like type compensation for ANY pitcher.

*Sorry - “challenge” not “challenged”.

This is nothing but Yankee fans fear that if we get Skubal their little AL pennant dreams have ended this season.

What do the Yankees have to do with that tweet?

Their offense isn't championship level IMO. Even if they add Skubal, I don't see them winning a World Series.

But I will give you Boston as being the one other team. But the poster said several teams.

I did say several, and I was specifically thinking of the Dodgers, but I was also assuming there was more than one, even though I had not done any research, but low, and behold, Mr. Guy mentioned another team that could also meet the price, so, perhaps accidentally, it was a valid comment

however, I think we might be better off setting our sites a little bit lower.

The Dodgers have prospects #48 and #63.

The Red Sox have prospects #7, #14, and #24.

Do those teams even have the guys that the Soto like package would entail?  Boston could I guess, but they've seemed to be more cautious of late.  This could be us bidding against ourselves.

We need to see who is available and who the Jays make available.

IMO Morosi is biased toward the Yankees (always has been). He does not want Skubal going to the O’s and if so he wants to make it as painful as possible for the O’s to acquire him.

Considering that we have Adley and just drafted 4 catchers, I think Basallo would be the centerpiece for a trade for Skubal or Crochet.

Have you seen how much James McCann plays.  We need two catchers on our roster.

What’s more valuable a second catcher to split time with Adley or an all-star/Cy Young caliber pitcher?

I don't think Holliday and Mayo can both be future Orioles.   Elias has had plenty of time now to figure out which he likes better. I'd go ahead and trade the other for Skubal if possible.  Throw in some other peices on both ends too probably.  Holliday and Kjersted, painful but I'd pull the trigger.

Honestly I like Holliday more. But I would trade him before Mayo.

Holliday for one probably has more value given that he can play SS and is a five tool player.

But Mayo solves more of a problem being a RH power bat.

I would trade Holliday, Cowser, and a couple of other minor league pieces necessary (probably one of Norby/Stowers but not Basallo). Or sub Basallo for Holliday.

I think Mayo is the one I keep because of the need for his right handedness in our lineup.

We will probably move on from Mountcastle after this year.  Adley and Basallo can do a 50/50 catcher split with the other DH'ing.  Holliday is the higher ranked player, and actually the one that I would prefer to move.

Are we worried about Skubal's innings this season?  He's only 33 IP shy of his career high in 2021.

    • Palmer was actually joking with him on air about it last night.
    • @Tony-OHhas mentioned several times that not one pitcher drafted or signed by Elias as an amateur had pitched in the majors.  True enough, but that streak has to end sometime pretty soon.  Who will it be?  My top 5 (not a prospect ranking, just a guess as to when they reach the majors): 1.  Brandon Young, 2020 UDFA (now at Norfolk).  He’s by far the most likely to reach the majors of snyone on this list.  He possibly could be called up this year, but I’d say more likely it’s in the first half of 2025, either as a starter or in the bullpen.  I expect he will be added to the 40-man this winter.    2.  Kade Strowd, 2019 12th round (Norfolk).  This is a bit of a flyer.   Strowd added a new pitch and was dominant at Bowie, but it didn’t really translate at Norfolk this year.  But, if he’s able to harness his stuff better next spring, he could be an early reinforcement for the bullpen.  He won’t be protected or claimed this winter, I expect. 3. Carlos Tavera, 2021 5th round (Norfolk).  When he was drafted, Tavera was the highest pick Elias had ever used on a pitcher since coming to Baltimore.  He’s split his time between Bowie and Norfolk, with much better success at the former, but he’s a guy I can imagine putting things together and getting a call-up next year.  He won’t be protected. 4. Dylan Heid, 2021 11th round (Bowie).   Heid has had a very good year at Bowie, and @wildcard suggested that he should be promoted, but he wasn’t.  He certainly should begin 2025 in Norfolk and would be another bullpen call-up candidate when things get thin.  He’s Rule 5 eligible but I think the O’s will not add him to the 40-man.   5. Trace Bright, 2022 5th round (Bowie).  He’s been used as a starter but his future may be in the bullpen.  He’s got better stuff than many of our prospects, but command is an issue.  I think in a bullpen role he could be ready sometime in 2025.   But if they continue to develop him as a starter, he probably spends the whole year in the minors.  He is not yet Rule 5 eligible, so no rush here.   Guys I didn’t include in my top 5 include Justin Armbruester (Norfolk starter who @Tony-OHthinks should be moved to the pen), Alex Pham (Bowie starter who probably starts next year in Norfolk’s rotation), and Cameron Weston (Bowie starter who began the year at Aberdeen but was promoted early in the year).    Who are your top 5?  Anyone I’m forgetting who has a decent chance to see the majors next year sometime?
    • I caught one of his starts down in Bowie last year or the year before and he was pitching while Stanton was on a rehab assignment.  He blew a couple fast balls by him that were low 90's.  Yes I know its Stanton and he's on rehab but it kind of caught me off guard seeing that.     But aside from that, he gave off reliever vibes to me.  Even his mentality on the mound, he was intense with almost every batter.  When I saw him pitching, I remember thinking, I bet he would be a good reliever.     I'm not a scout or even slightly educated on all the nuances of judging pitchers success. Just thought I'd add that slight anecdote.
    • I know I couldn't even get to work without a fully functional middle finger on my right hand.
    • Well, maybe we can make him a reliever in about 8 more years.
    • Orioles pitching gets to enjoy its 5th consecutive game with opponent's Yordan Alvarez/Freddie Freeman on the bench, in the category of "162-game grind".
    • Chuck Forrest was on Jeopardy! the other day. If Wall gets the Dave Roberts gig over He Who Ought Not Be Named, I hope the cheer is "Run, Forrest, run" in the scenario.
