Lots of draft capital invested in our current everyday lineup. 1st rd picks. Top 5 picks overall. 

When do they realize that they’re not in gym shorts in the batting cages, and getting graded by analytics? It’s arrogance. Can’t have a team full of Jack Custs that want to be 3 outcome players. 

Someone has to do the little things. Forget bunting. How about taking pitches, going the other way, getting clutch hits, putting the ball in play early in counts?  We’re terrible at the small things. 

It’s tough right now because Adley is struggling, and he’s likely our leader now. They need some sort of team meeting or we’ll just watch the season continue to get away from us. Literally, just go down crying about borderline calls, because everyone is so smart. 

This is the big leagues. They need to adjust. It ain’t changing for them. We’re too arrogant to do the small things. Maybe this season is good in the long run. Maybe this is why a vet hitter was needed. We’ll see if they change. 

These dudes can’t adjust, but Cal could have 27 batting stances?  Where would the lineup be if we had 9/15 hitters hurt?  The pitchers at least adjust and are grinding.

I think the stat for “when hitting the first pitch” may be the most misleading stat in all of baseball.  You can’t strike out on the first pitch, so that eliminates every single at bat where the batte

Nothing more old school than bunting with two strikes.

You gotta take a couple of pitches first right. Pretty selfish to not let the guy on deck see what’s coming. There’s no other way for a hitter to know what’s coming without sitting in the on deck circle.

Just to pile onto the reactionary nature of this and many recent discussions (it helps to vent)….Maybe some questions should be posed to Cody Asche, the offensive strategy coach.   In the NFL the OC would be front and center in terms of problems with the offense game plan!

Interview with upbeat Cody Asche on June 23.  Have not heard from him since.  Do wonder at times if there are too many voices for players to lisrten to and/or the manager job is more Head of Field Operations where you have to manage a team of coaches working with players...communications and managing input, technology etc never been more important.   In his interview Asche acknowledges that players go to different coaches for different things.  All great when things are going well, much harder when the team is struggling more, may as well add a team counselor which is probably more needed than ever!

Sounds like what this team needs is Adam Frazier lol. If only we had kept our two most hated players last year in Frazier and Flaherty, we’d be fine.

      Lets clinch the spot before we worry about the roster.  We act like that's inevitable, and certainly the math is in our favor.  But is it really crazy to think we could win just one game in each of the next four series?  Tigers are hot and just took 2 of 3; hard to imagine winning more than 1 in NY, and Twins will be fighting for their lives due to the aforementioned Tigers, in all likelihood.  I think we better take 2 of 3 from the Giants this week. Will four wins be enough?

      Drafting strategies aside, I don't see how anyone can point at Elias and say 'this is your fault'.  First of all, he's still built a playoff team (probably - I still hesitate to assume this, though just a couple more wins would ease my mind) even though half the team is missing (some more unexpectedly than others).  Second of all, the dregs he's had to pull up here lately haven't even been THAT bad considering how far down the depth chart they are/were.  Rivera has hit OK, L Soto in a VERY small size has at least shown a good glove.  He took a shot on Eloy and that hasn't really worked out, but it didn't cost much of anything to try.  I really don't know what people would have expected him to do. If anything, you could argue that the criticism he faced about not bringing up Holliday and Mayo sooner, rings pretty hollow given how bad they have been now that they are here.  Would they be any better here today if they had been playing in the majors for the last three months or whatever?  Hard to say, but at the rate they've been hitting, I don't know how any team could have given them the rope they apparently need.

      Yeah that's how I took it as well.  A shame if it happens.  Even if he can't be a starter he could be a weapon out of the pen, and give you length to boot.

      If you could get just ONE of Westburg and Grayson back, who you taking?  I'm taking Westburg every time.  I want to see Grayson again but feels like we can cover that loss, especially in a short series.  We need that RH bat back badly - just look at tonight's lineup for evidence of that.  Hell I'd probably take RMC or even Urias over Grayson at this point, in fact.
