Rubenstein Article

Decent interview — no real specifics, but certainly some level of additional investment into the team, stadium and community will be happening.

I guess I’m glad I’m hearing about his optimism without grandiose promises.

I don’t know if we’ll be signing or extending a whole bunch during this upcoming Hot Stove season, but I do think we’re about to find out how serious the new ownership group is about taking the team to the next level.

Nice article. I’ve settled into an expectation that they’re willing to spend money, but I don’t expect that they’re willing to set the market. I’d be thrilled to see them pounce on a TOR starter when free agency begins, but that seems pretty unlikely…..they’ll probably hang back and see who’s available after the initial feeding frenzy.

Look when DR ok the deals for Eflin and Jimenez that right there gave me hope that this will be much more  different than the JA days but will Elias continue to be conservative and hold this team back in making big moves . Yes he got Burnes great but that was for 1 year and didn't cost him a ton in his beloved prospects not money for that matter.

Ravens do this but they have earned that trust from me the Orioles not so much.

TOR starter, bullpen piece or two, RHB to balance out the lineup and Gunnar contract extension would be a dream offseason. At the very least they need the first three even if they don’t get what would be considered a true TOR starting pitcher.

Remember around this time last year we all wanted Adley extended wow have times changed no one wants that now.  I also agree with you. That's a fair ask.

Just pointing out that not everyone wanted Adley extended last year.

We'll see Rubenstein talks a good game, but actions speak louder than words. Also it's on Elias to be willing to make a splash if the right (but also pricey) player become available and wants to be an Oriole.

I was never big on an Adley extension even last year with the way catchers age. Gunnar is a player you absolutely lock up to an early contact extension assuming he is even open to it.

I hope all of the optimism re: Rubinstein is correct.  I must say I am a bit more skeptical than others and expect something in the range of a $130mm payroll.  He should try to really juice things ($180mm) and see if the fans show up.  If not, dial it back.

I think too many are linking $ to optimism and it is a bad move and what you say above would be terrible. At least in terms of attracting fans.

If going from the worst team in sports to one of the best doesn't bring fans, then you don't have enough fans.  Everyone has a right to be upset about everything from last October to this October because expectations have not been met.  But they haven't been met by the the O's players themselves.  However, you are talking about attracting fans... the best thing to attract fans would be winning a god darn playoff game.

My point is that juicing things up by spending an extra $50 million is not what this team needs.  It needs to find pieces to add to this roster that can help push the envelope from successful Divison winning team to World Series Winner.  That might cost more than $50M, it might cost less.  But if the owner juices things and we are not marginally better, then next year folks say Owner doesn't know how to spend....GM foolishly spends...etc. But extra bodies are not going to just show up.

What might that look like?  Well letting Burnes go for the pick.  Signing or trading for no other TOR pitcher to replace Burnes, extending Santander after signing a RH DH of some sort and extending Adley in a 7 yr deal.  That's juicy, and it could even work.  But I doubt it is going to bring any additional fans.

Rubenstein didn't do himself any favors by bringing Hyde back.

The GM hires the manager and after just one year, it’d be unfair for Rubenstein to step in and make that call. He’s already said he’s going to give Elias and Sig room to operate on the baseball side.

That said, if Rubenstein becomes unhappy with Elias’ direction and/or lack of success, then Elias is the one getting canned…I don’t think we’re anywhere near that though.
