Guthrie always starts bad then settles down later.

Guthrie has the same problem almost every game. Why not have him pitch a simulated 1st inning after he has completed his warm-ups? It has worked for other pitchers with the same problem.

I think you might have something here. I've never heard of anyone doing this, do you know of anyone in particular who has?

When Luke's hot there's not a thing he can't hit hard, but when he's cold there's not much he can do at all. I can't quite remember such a streaky player.

That's exactly what it is. He always hit well when he was well rested in Toronto. But, the more he played, the more he struggled at the plate.
