John Hart the next O's GM?

MacPhail got to bring in his own guys, that's the point. He had to deal with a few holdovers, but only Dave Stockstill seems to be the guy he couldn't get rid of. Flanagan and Duquette were both disposed of.
He got to bring in a few of his own guys...he wasn't surrounded by a staff of all of the people he would want...and that's how it should be.

Either way, he had PA, so he was screwed anyway.

Fixed that for you.

One might think that at 82 years old, Angelos would have his own succession plan in place. Maybe he feels John is up to the job. However, Angelos is still unable to surrender control, because he still feels he is the only one that can do it totally up to his expectations.

This is like Queen Elizabeth sitting on the throne when it's time to pass the title onto her heirs, who themselves aren't getting any younger.

I wonder if Lou is the actual son that is being groomed for ownership given John's stepping away and Lou's involvement in Sarasota and with this interview process...

When i was there, Lou didn't even have an office...He wanted nothing to do with the team.

Things may have changed over the years but I would be pretty surprised.

Either way, keeping the Angelos' running this organization is like having 100 years of ruthless kings. Its a horrible thing for us O's fans..get ready for the Cubs run if that happens.

I fully expect Peter to give the team to his sons at some point, either through his death or just by stepping down. The question is, do Lou or John care enough about the Orioles to stay on as owners, or would they sell them off to the highest bidder, take their money, and run? Lets hope its the latter!

John was the one that worked on Sarasota, not Lou

Well Lou was younger then, and John seems to have grown somewhat distant from the Orioles and is not part of his father's law firm while Lou is.

I just find it interesting that perhaps John screwed things up with the ST complex so badly perhaps PGA has told him to stay out of things with the Orioles, but he still retains his title with the club and still gets to run MASN.

The first quote is wrong, and, it should be noted, in direct contradiction with the second, posted within ten minutes of each other. John did bungle things down in Florida, and Andy and Pete intervened.

By involvement, I meant his representing PGA at the first Fanfest. It was Lou, not John that spoke on behalf of PGA.

Speculate much?

Its what PA does...you screw up, that's cool...You get promoted or, at the very least, you can keep your job.

Does anybody remember a thread a long time ago where John Hart was vilified on this board for saying something negative about the Orioles? I tried to find it in a search but didn't have any luck. I distinctly remember thinking he was a jerk when I read the thread, but it would be interesting to know if he was right in retrospect....
