Is Cal a former Oriole or Yankee?

You guys need to chill out. He's not gushing over anyone. He can't be the homer you're hoping for on this type of broadcast. And to the guy saying he doesn't like the Orioles, I suggest you listen to the end of the WC game.

Seriously. What a bunch of crybabies here. Oh, Cal isn't gushing over the Orioles? BFD, he's supposed to be neutral.

If anyone wonders where Cal's loyalty is, they need to get their heads checked. Did anyone not pay attention to what he said during his statue speech when he went out of his way to congratulate Buck and the team?

This.

I know it is a forum where nearly anything can and will be whined about, but it is silliest thesis I have ever heard. Did he say good things about the Yankees? Yes he did. Did he say good thing about the O's, why yes he did. Did he change loyalty? Serious?

And guess what it was "barely fair" -- a great hit in my eyes, but it was close.

It'd probably be easy to forgive him for being more interested in talking about the Yankees if he was particularly good at broadcasting, had anything at all interesting to say. He doesn't, though. Just a boring, disengaged guy. Perfect attendance doesn't make you interesting.

I figured this would happen, but we're pretty spoiled. Going from a quality broadcast team to a bunch of uninspired guys who don't seem to really want to be there, just supplying obligatory background noise. Really tried to stick with it, made it through half of the game as the radio wasn't syncing up at all with the action, but I ended up going with Fred and Joe, even if it was a little jarring with the sync problems.

I don't think most are questioning his loyalty - per se. But he has gone OUT OF HIS WAY to make idiotic comments about opposing teams' players that feel fake and forced... just to make himself look unbiased, I guess. That is putting yourself first, and being wrong in the process, and I don't think you need to kiss the butts of the opposing teams to not sound like a homer. Just don't be a homer. I wouldn't want/expect him to gush over the Orioles either. Just be a professional and quit trying to judge who is the best player at whatever position. To say Beltre is the best third baseman ever? Just absolutely stupid. Brooks is a 10 times better third baseman, by almost every measure. Beltre isn't even the best third baseman playing today, IMO.

Great post. Agree with all of it.

The premise of this post is silly. Do you really think there's an army of secret Cal haters on this board, just waiting to unfairly jump on Cal for any reason? Generally, I have always loved Cal - but the past two games, listening to him, I have gotten the biggest dose of her personality ever. And I ain't liking it. He doesn't sound like the kind of guy I'd want to sit next to on a long flight, that's for sure. Sorry, I respect what he did on the field, for the most part. But... maybe he just needs to do his thing in Aberdeen and kinda ride that into the sunset.

    • Saves are about the stupidest thing to base reliever pay on.  Ok you probably won't have your worst reliever pitching the 9th, but pitching the 9th w/ a 3 run lead is probably one of the easiest reliever jobs.
    • I'm wondering if Gunnar would be interested in a 8 year/$250 mill extension.  He would still hit free agency at 30.  Also he could have the option of taking player option for 5 years/$200 mill if he had top 5 MVP finish in year 5-8 (is this kind of opion even legal by MLB rules?)
    • Honestly it's been kind of a useless roster spot, so I don't know that they really care about performance. No matter who it is in this roster spot, they won't play a lot so they're not looking for them to make a big offensive impact.
    • I really like watching Burnes pitch. And yet, I’ve never gone back and forth so much on a possible contract offer for him than any other player. Dude deserves to be paid, I just keep thinking the price tag and years is simply too much. It’s fear of injury and potentially paying another guy well after he stops playing baseball. If the Elias and crew want to make a run at him, I’ll certainly roll with it. I guess we will know more about how deep our pockets actually are after this season.
    • Westburg batting #4 isn't your typical clean up hitter, but he does 2 things well enough that it's probably going to be consistently effective. 1. He has a high average with runners in scoring position. 2. If the 1st 3 batter fail, he'll be good at leading of the 2nd inning. Bonus: He's got some pop in his bat so once in a while he can do what traditional cleanup hitters do. I love how versatile and consistent Jordan Westburg is.
    • I hope we extend Henderson and Adley at the All-Star break this year. Rubenstein can show that the Orioles are sitting at the big boy table now. They are some of the best players in MLB and should be getting paid.
    • To me, it's more about offensive inconsistency game to game. I don't do the research that many others on here do, I just go off of what I see and feel. And I feel like this offense is very inconsistent and it's an all or nothing approach. There's been back and forths on social media about whether the lack of walks is going to hurt this team long term especially in the post season. In addition to the walks it's the impatience on many nights that drives me crazy. Also, the lack of station to station baseball. Last night, I felt like it was nothing but attack attack attack.. clearly after a couple innings this approach was not working so why not change it up a bit? And also, no one is talking about that after we got Gray out of the game, we didn't do jack **** against their bullpen. The bullpen guys (excluding Hensley) do not have Gray "stuff". So what's the explanation for why we didn't even have a hit after we knocked Gray out? If these trends continue, yes, we may not get swept (because we'll hit enough HRs), but it'll be difficult to rattle off long winning streaks which unless they fall apart due to injury, will make it difficult to keep up with and overtake NY (they just won 7 in a row and like 10 of 13?).
