Trade rumor

I think we might be underestimating Ray's value. I know strange for this place but Duq did mention that people have taken notice to what we have done to the bullpen. He also mentioned that the phone has been ringing alot more since they have done it. Perhaps teams are seeing Ray as tradeable now. He really isnt a prospect anymore he is proven major league talent that is ultra cheap.

I could see the Ray's doing Ray, Penn, and Gibbons (DH for them) for Crawford.

I certainly hope that the Drays have some people in their FO who think like you do. I think that Ray is a very valuable closer. But, a stud LFer like Crawford who has speed, glove, a good bat, and developing power is much more valuable than a closer. Penn also has value, but I don't really see Gibbons as having any. He's a decent bat with no glove and an injury history. If this trade ever becomes anything more than rumor, I will send Duq flowers.

I think we can leave Gibbons out of this deal. I don't know why the DRays would even want him.

What if it was Penn, Ray, and Erbe?

I still pull the trigger, but I'm a huge Crawford fan. I think he will be a top 5 player in baseball in the next couple of years.

Here is last year's line:

AVG .305 | HR 18 | RBI 77 | OBP .348 | SLG .482

I would like to see him get on-base a little more and I am surprised he doesnt hit for more doubles. Improving in those two categories would certainly make him close to the elite.

He sure would look nice batting 2nd between BRob and Kakes!

Yesterday, Duquette said how valuable a guy like Ray is, and how it would take a 4 - $7 million per deal on the free agent market to replace him. On top of that, he noted how difficult it would be to pull off a trade for a guy like Ramirez in our division because of the 19 games between the teams. Would a trade for Crawford be any less difficult? In short, this rumor goes against what the front office has been telling us. How much stock we want to put into what they say is another story.;)

    • I agree Hays is fine to spell Mullins while he figures out how to swing a bat again. I also agree that Hays is disproportionately affected by the wall. If he wasn’t so perpetually dinged up, increasingly expensive and average, he would be an excellent trade candidate.
    • Rubenstein came down the aisle for our section last night during the game tossing out dozens of hats and talking to the fans as he went. Awesome to have an owner that truly loves this team and enjoys being part of the crowd.
    • I  agree that when he swings at strikes, isn’t in perpetual pull mode, and isn’t trying to hit the ball 450 feet, he’s pretty good.
    • He can spell Mullins too. Really nice addition if he can get back to playing like Hayes again. Now, if only we can Mullins going.
    • I think everyone agrees when he’s healthy, he’s pretty good.  But that doesn’t mean he should be starting over Cowser. Maybe against lefties but he’s never been lefty assassin.
    • New Rubenstein updates in the Sun this morning: Rubenstein’s group will soon own 97% of the Orioles.  The prior minority had tag-along rights and almost all have decided to sell (not surprising as change in control is only time you get true market value). It’s not known which minority owners decided to hold on to their shares. Rubenstein reiterated that Elias is the best GM in baseball. Unlike John Angelos, Rubenstein won’t serve as the everyday CEO on the business side.  They are actively recruiting for the role and have retained a search firm. Stadium upgrades could include a modern scoreboard, more premium seating near the field, additional restaurants, and an improved clubhouse. Rubenstein frequently signs autographs with the date and people tell him to stop being such a lawyer.
