At least when the O's start losing games, no one can blame it on the most asinine and downright stupid idea to ever grace the Orioles Hangout: The Brian Roberts Curse.

Yeah, you know who you are.

Thank God. Out of all the ridiculous things that have been said over the years, crack pot theories and arguments, the only one that comes close to this is the "Tillman Team Wall Paper No-Show" saga.

It is almost always sad when a long term player moves on. Roberts was one of the few bright spots during the dark era, and over the past few years has been virtually non-existent and a money pit. If he had been a regular over the last 3 years, things might be different. For those that think $2 million would have been a good deal, you are thinking with your heart not what's best for the team. For those that thinks this is PA, I think you are wrong. PA would love a payroll of $2 million/player. Wasn't it reported that PA turned down a deal that would have sent BR to Atlanta years back because he was a favorite?

It will be strange to see BR in pinstripes for sure. His addition doesn't improve their team. The Yankees have a strange mix going on. All logic would suggest that the majority of their "stars" should be past their peak. The names sound great and they will have their moments, but I overall I think they are in trouble.

About 11 months from now we will be looking at Markakis. That will certainly be a more interesting situation than Roberts. What is it 17.5 million? I don't see that happening even if he has one of his more typical years. The reactions here, either way will be worth the reading.

Well when we win the division this year and the Yankees have a losing record you can admit there is a Brian Roberts curse.

To me, it's simple. If Duquette wanted B-Rob back on the team it would've happened. There are conflicting reports about whether or not there was communication with his agent, but it seems obvious to me.......DD was paying lip service which is probably his method of being respectful to all the history B-Rob has here.

You're 100% correct.

Communication is a two way street. I do not hold it against DD if he indeed reached out to Brian or his agent. If Brian had already decided that he was going with the Yanks, no matter what, then talking with the Orioles was really not necessary on his part. Though you think making over 60 million from an organization over the years that Brian would have considered giving them an option to match or better (which also would have been a better PR move on his part as it would have put the onus back on DD). And I wonder if Potter would have given a little extra to the budget for one of his faves? But we will never know now, what's done is done, thanks to Brian for the years of great play and we hope that you go 0 for whatever against the Orioles next year.

Well, there was the whole Hayden Penn doesn't have a good enough name to be a decent player thing.

I understand the reluctance to sign him and I may even agree with the Orioles, but the idea of Brob going to the Yankees and even helping them win

one game let alone many makes me ill.

He owed us nothing. We owed him nothing. But it makes me want to throw up.

I have never agreed more completely with anything you have ever said. Not sure if this makes me want to toss my lunch or drive into a tree, but the site of Roberts in a MFYankee uniform is going to be horrifying. I always will appreciate what he did for the Birds during some lean years, and ultimately I wish him well …. but not if it helps the Evil Empire. Any other team wouldn't have bothered me, since it was clear Baltimore wasn't going to sign him. But going over to the Dark Side? PUKE.
