Crawford Talks

Heard on ESPN Radio that O's are looking at both Huff and Crawford from the D-Rays. Sounds like an offer could be made to Huff soon to platoon with Millar at 1B. Also discussed a possible Fiorentino, Ray, and Gibbons for Carl Crawford trade....who knows the reality of it, I personally think that's way too much to give up for Crawford. He's a great player though and I would love to see him in an O's uniform next season. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Way too much?

Are you serious? I'll personally drive all of them to airport.

If they got Crawford for that, they'd be locked up for larceny.

Too much? I would also throw in Penn just to get it done.

If your Driving then I'll carry the bags.

I think there would be tons of help to go round here on the board, to ship them out of Baltimore For Crawford.

And I would rather explore this Shelton rumor, then make a run for Huff.

I really like the idea of getting Crawford but I'd like to get him without giving up Ray.

Than your not getting Crawford... picking up the team options on years 2009 and 2010, he's owed $27.5m over the next 4 years. There will be plenty of suitors out their if he's going to be traded, and the DRays want pitching, young pitching.

I see what you're saying....I just think you could package Ray into an even better trade possibility than Crawford. Ray is the wild card in that deal and I don't want to see that guy come back and haunt us. Is/Should he be untouchable? No, but I would be careful.

Yes, these things matter. It's painful enough to have BJ Ryan shut us down every time the Blue Jays need to seal a win.

On the other hand, it's always fun to knock Mussina out of a game. But then there's a grudge against the Moose that I'm sure none of us feel against Ray.

Ray won't hurt us as long as the O's win their majority of games vs. Tampa. A closer can't hurt you if the you have the lead in the 9th. Crawford would contribute to more Oriole wins then Ray would, both offensively and defensively. Hoey could be the next Ray with time. Baez can close for the time being.

    • Yeah, he's been in a slump for a while but easy to forget he's still a rookie.  Still learning.  Needs to cut down on those Ks a bit.  I think he will. Gotta love the improvement from last year.
    • As improved as he been in the field he still has to prove he can hit the cut otherwise he will continue to be run on as we saw against Toronto.  Beyond cuts, I believe his last two throws to the plate were so poor they were 30 feet up each line.  If he is to be a legit fill-in CF or there for an extended period his arm accuracy has to improve.  I really like Cowser's athleticism in LF at Camden Yards but right now his arm makes me cringe.
    • With the off day coming up and Povich's performance last night, I could see Suarez skipping a start to be available out of the pen (especially as a piggyback for Povich in NY). This would be a 5 man rotation across the off day, and picking back up as a 6 man on the next time through. This gets us to July 1st, when Kremer is likely back and we get a bunch of off days. Thur - Irvin vs Philly Fri - Bradish Sat - Grayson Sun - Burnes Mon - Off @ NYY Tues - Povich (Suarez) Wed - Irvin Thur - Bradish @Hou Fri - Grayson Sat - Burnes Sun - Suarez vs Cle Mon - Povich Tues - Irvin Wed - Bradish vs Tex Thur - Grayson Fri - Burnes Sat - Suarez Sun - Povich
    • It's been the case time and time again - win and the fans will show up. It's not "crime" or the perception of crime in Baltimore. It's winning, folks.
    • This is not a sky is falling post but more of a resetting of expectations one.  Holliday has hit .087 the last 7 games.  His OPS is now .898.  A lot of that OPS is driven by OBP.  Normally that is a good thing, but with Holliday he showed little ability to walk at the big league level.  I think last year was a bit of a mirage reminiscent of the amazing year Wieters had in the minors when he was touted as Mauer with power. In short, Holliday's inability to do damage is going to allow pitchers in the MLB to challenge him.  He won't be walking, like he is in the minors.  It's also troubling that in the majors he seemed to have trouble with every type of pitch, not just velocity.   I still think he is a very good prospect, but I would take Mayo or Basallo over him and would trade him for the right young starter.  I just don't think the upside is there and am worried about the floor more and more.
    • The best thread on here. We are more games over .500 than we have losses.
