You must be drinking if you like that contract. They are player options so if he doesn't do well he will clearly opt to take them. 100 million to 22 million and basically pick 14 compared to 27.

We could have resigned him...but we were bidding against 30 other teams, and would have had to guarantee more than $96M (with an opt out). Oh yeah, and Chen ended up giving up only one hit, but gave up 2 runs and only made it through 6 IP, pretty typical of what he was doing with the O's. I wanted him back but it by no means as simple as "we could have just resigned Chen".

99.9% of this board was running Chen right out of town this offseason.

Can't pay an average pitcher. He just isn't that good, we can't overpay him!
