Arrieta continues to be a person that we are keeping tabs on. Heard we haven't written him off yet. The two sides have talked. Hasn't progressed a ton, but the dialogue is fluid as recent as this morning.

If the O's were even willing to pay for him, would Jake even want to come back here?

I would guess that really depends on what else is out there. I'm sure a return to Baltimore has a price point he'd be willing to accept. Also with Adair well in the rearview mirror, that could help, too.

No, of course not. Jake is not going to willingly come here and face the constant interview questions about the time when he sucked as baseball. He'll have to both revisit a bad time of his career and somehow tip toe around blaming the Orioles, who are quite obviously to blame.

Why would he do that? Just sign with anybody else, even Philly, who have every bit of chance of winning games that the Orioles do, and he wouldn't have to face American League opponents.

It drives me nuts that this is not clearly obvious to every single person on this message board.

I really cannot bring myself to believe this piece of information. Jake will have written the O's off long ago. If the two sides have talked, it's the agent telling the Orioles to kindly piss off.

Some fans want Jake back.  I still think Jake has some hurt feelings against the Orioles. No he won't sign with the O's. IMO

Sign both Lynn and Cobb on incentivized 2+ year deals and let’s go win this thing! ?

Seriously, it seems like both are gonna come on nice deals to whoever gets them, and both are pretty solid pitchers, and the O's have a burning need for arms.  I know we'll be lucky if the O's even sign one, but it's not like they're gonna be getting Chris Davis or Mark Trumbo money where they'll weigh you down and no one else will take their contracts.  The outlook for this season with those guys versus without them is night and day.

I am sure he would sign with the Orioles in a second if the Orioles offered what Boras asked for a month ago.  But if there are comparable of offers from the Orioles and another team he is going to choose the other team.

Because it's not obvious. If the Orioles give him the beat deal (which they won't anyhow) he will sign with the Orioles. I can't believe it's not obvious to you it's about money...period.

Yeah if you could get them on 2 year deals sign them both.   Of course, its not my money.  The pitching staff right now is already weak.  What if one of the top 3 starters goes on the Disabled List in April. You might as well give up on the season right there.  I feel you need at least one more starter to put a competitive team on the field.   I am not sure how long until Hunter Harvey is ready. That should determine whether you sign two of them (Like this is a possibility)

You don't hire Boras unless you aren't concerned about the money.  Perfect revenge for Arrieta would be a long expensive deal from the Orioles where he goes back to not being able to make it out of the 5th inning.

I could easily see Lynn and Cobb both ending up in Philly and Jake in DC. We're getting our hopes up that a SP falls into the Orioles laps...then remember it's the Orioles.

Yeah even when people say we signed someone we can see him show up at spring training with another team.

I doubt Arrieta himself would describe any future where he's a bad pitcher as perfect revenge.

    • How about..." we wont win another game in the regular season"?
    • i still like that winning your division matters, at least a little bit.  So I think there's a happy medium between how unbalanced it was, and what you are suggesting.  13 games vs each division team feels right to me, but there are going to be years where that skews the WC thing a bit, because there's always one really bad team, it seems, somewhere (not always as bad as the ChiSox, of course).  I'm not sure how else to further balance it.  Maybe cut back on the NL stuff a bit and play more games against your non-divisional conference rivals so at least there's more head to head to base the WC on.
    • Apparently this post of mine from one year ago killed this thread, as it was the last before today's bump.  In re-reading that, I am reminded (by a past version of myself, LOL) of why I love this sport.  It was actually a bit invigorating reading that back to myself.  LETS GO BIRDS!
    • I've found the older I get, the less interest I have in watching my teams lose. It's a waste of time so I find something else to do. Watching my team lose is not enjoyable so I'd rather do something I'd enjoy. It's not like I'm that old either, just 47. I get a lot more enjoyment out of watching good games with other teams, to be honest. Watching the Bills in the first half last night was fun. The Redskins/Bengals game was fun to watch. Man City and Arsenal on Sunday was great. The Chiefs/Falcons game was a good game. There were a few decent college football games this last weekend as well. I'll watch the game to start tonight and if the O's are down 3-0 after the 1st inning, I'll find something else to do, probably watch some of the other MLB games that have playoff implications.
    • It will be interesting to see if there is any carry over from the HBP's culminating in Heston's beaning.  Hate to say it but that's around when the .500 play started, now much worse.  I did like the way HK stared down Holmes after being hit-I think this series will mean a little more to him.
    • It’s O’s and Yanks. Good guys versus bad guys. Baby Birds up against the Evil Empire — and another trip to the post-season is in the cards. I’ve been cheering for the O’s and very specifically against the Yanks going on six decades, and I’m getting good at it. So, yeah. I’m fired up. Now ask me about hopes and dreams. I don’t think this Orioles team is going to make a run to WS this year.  They have scuffled, they have failed — but I’m reminded, even in the platinum age of data — baseball is still a game of failure.  And man, runners in scoring position over the last week, I’m not sure I want to know that number. They’re still my guys. As long as they’re in it, so am I.
    • Let's go Tampa! Actually, I'm fired up for the offseason.
