That’s fair. I totally see where you’re coming from. Hopefully we are able to add a better overall group of talent with this strategy. Because we certainly need it.

But with that said, Kjerstad had much better OBP and fewer strikeouts this truncated season at Arkansas and with Team USA this past summer. It’s a surprising pick and certainly a bit of a reach, but if he would have kept that same torrid pace up this season, it wouldn’t have been.

I don’t feel like this is a Hobgood situation.

I get why people like Kjerstad, I just don't like him at #2.  Especially when it sounds like he's not a great defender, either.  The bat must be REALLY special.  Unfortunately we didn't get a whole season but if Elias and co. think that he's on the upswing, well, that's good.

Maybe comping Hobgood off the bat was a bit extreme but in the moment it certainly felt like a slot savings move.

This year was a very small sample size, and I believe this pick was a case of recency bias.

This year, yes. But if you add in Team USA, that’s about half a college season of all-around tremendous play. I don’t think that’s very small.

I can’t argue with any of that. I definitely think it’s a savings move to some extent, and it could be a significant savings move, depending on what Martin and Scotty B. wanted. We just have to see what happens with these next few picks.

Its a risk for sure, but with the trajectory Kjerstad was on, I feel good about it.

Well, you've calmed me down some. I've gone from nuclear level mad to just pretty upset, lol. i just don't understand the risk of the strategy of saving money to potentially get guys that we like later in the draft, especially if we pick guys at 30 and 39 that we could have gotten there anyway without picking Kjerstad.

i'm outta rep for the day but, yes.

Unfortunate that there's not going to be a minor league season this year, would really like to see him this summer to see if that trajectory kept going.

I'm sure we are going to hear great things about what he does at camp.

I get it. I think I’m just better with it because I wasn’t as high on Martin and was probably a little higher on Heston than others. It was the perfect storm. Haha.

For me, part of it was that Martin went to Toronto.  I'd probably care less if he went to Miami or something.
