He barely hit enough at Ottawa to get a promotion, but it was really that the O's system was really just that barren. And he ended up making some cool plays out there defensively, got a few timely hits. And Palmer famously said the guy looked "like he fell off the back of the turnip truck", which he absolutely did. Looked like he might tip over from the weight of his cap bill.

Look at the 2006 Ottawa Lynx.  Especially the position player side.  The average age was almost 29, and really nobody could be considered a prospect at all.  Aside from one PA from Brian Bock, Val Majewski was the youngest position player at 25.  And his prospect status had already crashed and burned due to injuries that saw him miss essentially all of 2005.  More-or-less the whole team was 28 years old and OPS'd .725 in AAA.

At least on the pitching side there were some players with some kind of major league ability like Adam Loewen, Daniel Cabrera, John Stephens, Hayden Penn.

Somehow that team finished 74-69.  Median attendance in the IL that year was about 500k, and the Lynx drew 122k. 1/3rd of the 2nd-to-last team.
