Games in empty stadiums will lead to normalcy?

When you factor in television, announcers injecting personality and storytelling, fans being able to enrich their viewing with internet access to voluminous archives of stats, the recent multiplication of in-game data, e.g. hit velocities and angles, pitch location and movement, and the already common phenomena of playing to extremely poorly attended games in places like Tropicana Field, I don't consider this a necessarily futile enterprise.

After tracking JHU’s tool each morning this week, their data tells us this:

States with most deaths: NY, NJ LA, MI, WA, and CA (278, 54, 48, 43, 39, and 39).

Confirmed cases tripled in 13 states.  Doubled in 41 states. (Including DC here as a “state”, so 51 total).

Nine states have 2000+ cases.  15 states have 1000+.

Idaho, Nebraska, and Missouri climbed the highest in state ranking of confirmed cases.

Virginia and Maine fell the most.

From 3/23 to 3/30, only four states didn’t triple their reported cases: Washington, Arkansas, Maine, and Nebraska.

Twelve states had a 400% or more increase in reported cases.

There were 2021 deaths reported last week compared to 492 total previous deaths.

Hawaii and South Dakota are the only states that haven’t reported a COVID-19 death.

It will be a moving target. They talk about flights from NY to Florida, but infected asymptomatic snowbirds will be heading north soon.

And I'll be more happy than usual to see them go.

Still a lot of people down here not taking this seriously enough.

Maryland coronavirus cases by age group

Of 1,413 confirmed cases. Data is updated each morning from state reports.

40-59 (38%)
Under 20 (2.3%)
80 and over (3.7%)
60-79 (25%)
20-39 (31%)

Interesting in Maryland the 60 to over 80 cases is less then the 20-39 confirmed cases. Could be many reasons including less testing for seniors, maybe the seniors are really not going out and taking it seriously since they were thought to be the most at risk group.

Also the cases went down in Maryland over yesterday and the day before. Could be an anomaly or maybe the containment measures  are beginning to show in data.  All things TBD,

Pretty high variable in deaths in the US depending on many  variables including containment, treatment and testing.

We are not just inert objects here, and the choices we make could make a huge difference, as the experts think anywhere from around 36K to 1.1m deaths is highly plausible. That's 30-fold difference in possible outcomes.

Gov. Larry Hogan on Monday issued a stay-at-home order for Marylanders to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

That means no one should leave their home for any reason other than essential work, to get food or other fundamental reason. He said no one should travel outside of the state or ride public transportation unless it is “absolutely necessary.” The order takes effect at 8 p.m.

This doesn't say you can go outside your home to exercise.  I think this is excessive.

Also says you can get 1 year in jail for violating order.  Shouldn't this require legislative approval before being implemented.
