Gunnar Henderson 2021

Just Regular

Recommended Posts

He and Cannon were tied for league lead with 4 HR; now he has it all to himself.

Delmarva's 109 runs scored entering tonight league high.   The 0-15 Fred Nats have 39.

Lynchburg looks like the other best team in the league and they match up next week.    Maybe after Lynchburg week we get some movement.

FWIW, Jonathan Mayo, whom was on Glen Clark radio this week, is extremely bullish on Henderson and seems to think he’ll stick at SS. Said he’s inside his top 50 prospects in baseball right now, and seemed to be tentatively even higher on him than that.

Very exciting.

Remembering back to the weeks leading up to the 2019 draft how many of us were hoping that pitcher Seth Johnson would still be available for us to grab with the 42nd pick in the second round. Luke was especially bullish on him, if I recall. But the Rays grabbed Johnson at #40, and we settled for Gunnar.

Seth Johnson is pitching in Low A with an ERA of 10 and a WHIP of 3. Yes, the Rays have a great farm system, but currently he’s not among their top 30 prospects. Meanwhile Gunnar Henderson is two years younger at the same professional level, is hitting the snot out of the ball, and is considered one of the top 100 prospects in the game.

Delmarva's run differential is 2nd in the league, 30-ish better than everyone else except Lynchburg, who is ~15 better than them.    Yes I am reacting to a 3-week Low-A sample, but I can accept Delmarva keeping its Boy Man Among Boys for the showdown.   Informal league championship before multl-level/year guys start their in-season climbs.   I have gotten to the point where nightly I expect to see Delmarva scoring runs like the '27 Yankees.

I would guess this position player group has some Koby fingerprints on it from doing work a few years ago:

I see that Henderson now has 4 errors. Is that because he is switching back and forth between SS and 3B, or because of the notoriously bad minor league infields that I have read about?

I don't know, but I was going to ask about his defense.

With all the shifting they now do at the Major League level, it probably helps to be able to play all the infield positions, at least somewhat, so the switching should help with that

This looks like someone "forcing a promotion".  If he keeps it up how much longer does he stay at this level?

I'd say July.

That's a little over a month away, it'll be here before we know it.  See if he cools off at all or if he's really just crushing this level and ready to move up.
