4-2 heading into the Home Opener

The Orioles will go into the home opener with a 4-2 record despite Mancini (.472 OPS), Mountcastle (.439), Franco (.561), and Galvis (.390) not hitting and Hays already on the IL.

Mullins (1.239) and Santander (.713) are the only regulars with OPS over .700.

The rotation:
Means: 0.77 ERA thru 2 Starts
Harvey: 3.86
Zimmemann: 4.50
Lopez: 7.71
Kremer: 9.00

The bullpen:
Valdez: 4.1 IP (0.00 5K, 3 H, 1 BB)
Scott: 2.2 IP (0.00, 5K, 1 H, 2 BB)
Sceroler: 2.2 IP (0.00)
Plutko: 5.1 IP (0.00)
Tate: 2 IP (0.00)
Sulser: 2 IP (0.00)

That's some pretty good relief pitching.

Right now it's been the pitching, not the hitting that has kept them in games.

Now if we can get the hitters going.

A 4-2 road trip is the most realistic best scenario an O’s fan could have had to start the season.

Yep.   Bottom line, we pitched well in all four games we won, and didn’t in the two games we lost.   The offense was either mediocre or non-existent in 5 of the 6 games.   

Overall, I’m not complaining.   It’s six games and you can’t make too much of it.   But a 4-2 road trip in Boston and NY is pretty good any time, and I was glad to get off the schneid in NY after the way they owned us last year.

I hope Mc isn’t in LF  tomorrow, that Frankel gets a stern talking to about Lollygagging, and hmmm... I guess that’s it...

Not in the same category, but in this series (and I discount the Cole game because he's Cole) nobody seemed to go to bat with any sort of plan. Just hacking away at anything that looked close.

Wells, Le Blanc.   Fry only threw 7 pitches.  He should be available.  Maybe Sceroler if they need him.

57% of the strikes Scott had last night were swinging.  That’s an impressive stat.  If he can keep harnessing his command and control, he could be a dominant reliever.

Mancini’s at bat against Chapman was encouraging, fought off a few and took a few. He hasn’t been seeing the ball well and has looked frustrated after some AB’s so hopefully he is starting to get comfortable again.

I was equally impressed with Cedric's AB.  He fought off a couple of 97 mph FB's and hung in there before flailing at a slider in the dirt.  That lefty lefty thing isn't so bad after all (SSS).

"Harvey is one of 19 members of the 26-man roster who haven’t played before fans on Opening Day as an Oriole. It’s his second start at Camden Yards; on May 11, 2019, while pitching for the Los Angeles Angels, Harvey allowed two runs in four innings of a 7-2 Angels win.

“You have to look at it as a normal start,” Harvey said. “I obviously know it’s the home opener, and it’s extremely exciting. I’ve been fortunate enough to pitch in a lot of ballparks, a lot of new ballparks. It’s an honor to wear the Baltimore jersey, pitch for the home opener. It’s a big league game. You have to go out there, no matter where you are, and get people out. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Harvey developed a good first impression of Oriole Park.

“I enjoyed playing there,” he said. “It’s an incredible ballpark. It was a good first experience. I’m looking forward to it and the next six months, or however long it is. I think being a veteran, you learn how to manage different mounds, different stadiums.”

John Means, who started on Opening Day in Boston on April 2, will enjoy being a spectator.

“It’s always fun to run down that orange carpet,” Means said. “You don’t get to when you pitch. I love doing that. It’s such a cool day in Baltimore. It’s such a good time. I can’t wait for it. It’s going to be fun to come back home. I love that place.”

So, they don't count the run that scored on Valdez as an ER, right?  Since he had a runner on 2nd just because of the extra innings rules?  I only ask because Yahoo (which is garbage when it comes to stats) showed the run as earned.
