That would have led to an obligatory response that the O's don't have a ton of people on base! They're 20th in MLB in OBP. And since they're 1st in slugging, a ton of those times on base don't set up double play situations. This team is 27th in MLB in singles. 28th in MLB in walks. 28th in MLB in GB%. There's your low GIDP recipe. -

Damn. I think my memory is jacked. It was Saturday that O'Hearn started then. I thought it was yesterday and making today 2 in a row for O'Hearn at 1B. -

Unfortunately GIDP wasn't recorded regularly prior to 1950, so neither High Pockets nor the 1884 Union Assocation (or the Federal League, for that matter) give us much to work with on this topic. Although, weirdly, someone went back through all the accounts of the old National Association and found both GIDP and caught stealing data for that proto-league. So we know that Dickey Pearce (who I often confuse with Davy Force, doesn't everyone?) grounded into a league-leading 7 DPs in 1873, whilst being caught stealing not at all in three attempts. I have no idea if the stolen base data for the NA was using the 1886-1898 definition or the 1899-present one. -

I wonder if the actions of last off season with some of Boras clients may cause them to sign elsewhere a bit earlier for less then they have in the past. I doubt it will make a difference for the very top guys like Burnes or Gunnar but if i was a mid level top of the rotation guy or number 2 starter like Snell and Montgomery I would be a little more hesitant to hold out and then have to take a much shorter deal. It was reported that Snell got a few 5 year deal offers but Boras pushed him to wait it out that someone would blink but it never happened, will the free agents this season be a little gun shy on holding out all off season. -

He started yesterday at 1b and had 4 at bats. He's been scuffling a bit. Also played in game 1. -
