Modest contribution of international players?

Ramon Urias _-- Mexico

Felix Bautista -- Dominican Republic

Jose Pinto -- Venezuela

Not bad at all if you ask me... particularly since we only just improved our focus on the international scene. Plenty more coming behind these guys.

I'm not saying it's "good" or "bad" -- just that the international talent contribution from a projected closer, an average-ish second baseman (whom I like a lot, so far) and a utility guy is pretty small compared to that of most successful teams. I understand the deep hole that Peter Angelos's ignorance or stupidity or whatever put the Orioles in with respect to international signings, and that the last few years have been spent climbing out of that hole. I just think it's hard to build a decent team, let alone a 90-win team, without getting significant contributions from trades or free-agent signings and projecting just these three international players.

Here's a thumbnail analysis/prediction thread from a dyed-in-the-wool Kool Aid drinking optimist.

By 2023... Without adding any notable free agents...

GRod and Means will be the top of the rotation.

Two of the following, will be solid (better than .500) middle/back end starters.. Hall, Lowther, Bradish, Baumann, Zimmermann

Pushing at their heels will be Rom, Baumler, Young, Pinto

Lot of long relief potential in the crew that doesn't make the rotation.

Other-worldly monster Felix Bautista as the stopper

Outfield will consist of Hays, Mullins, Stowers..  with Vavra as a util inf/outf (Kjerstad as an ever hopeful)

Infield Mountcastle, Urias, Henderson/Westburg, Mayo/Westburg

Adley behind the plate.

Mundy DH

This is a 90+ win team

Whose heels is Baumler going to be pushing at?

2022 will be the first year of him pitching since the draft. He most likely will be on a restricted pitch count since he is coming off surgery. And yet you think that he will be pushing for the O's starting rotation in 2023? Is there another Baumler in the O's system other than the one that was drafted last year?

That had to be the worst product placement case in history.  You talk about a damaging reputation hit that Kool-Aid still can't shake this many years later.  How do you distance yourself from such a thing?

Fits in the category of “any publicity is good publicity.”   Even false publicity in this case.  Everyone knows what Kool-Aid is.

Probably not much more than today's $63M

But I'm sure they'd win at least 15 more games if you paid $163 for the same guys.

Well today’s payroll isn’t 63M or anything close to it.  Secondly, the payroll of that team isn’t likely as high as it was in 2021, where it was I believe around 58M.

The Orioles final player payroll outlay for 2021 including all realized incentives was $63M

It is estimated to be $56M for 2022

But that’s not “today’s payroll”. Today’s payroll is far less than 63M.

BTw, they are showing Davis’ full contract on there and that’s wrong.  It’s way off.
