Kyle Bradish 2022

Finally a chance to see Bradish's stuff on Statcast during his spring debu against the Yankees.

1st inning:

4-seam fastball - V movement, 14-15 inches, 0-1 inch H MOV. 97.5 top, 95.7 AVG.
Cutter - Avg-14 V movement, 4 to 5 inches of H mov, top 97.5, avergae screwed up because one misclassified slider
Slider-  37 Vmov, 14 Horizontal, 89 MPH another was 35 vmov, 10 H
Curve - 57Vmov, 6 Hv (12-6) 83.3 MPH

Contact was hard when it was made, including a loud double by Judge and a 109.5 MPH ground out by Stanton

2nd inning:
Fastball - 94.5-97.1
Slider - Had a real good one with over 40 inch of break
Some Cutters

Had a walk, but then got them out 1-2-3.. including a K on a 3-2 slider (called a cutter by statcast)

31 pitches...

I had thought he was likely to start in Triple-A this year, but after giving him the start last night I'm wondering if he has a real shot at being part of the Orioles opening week rotation

I was actually very impressed with the stuff though I really wish he had a change, but the cutter can be affective on lefties.

Everything is hard except for the curve and he seems to be using that as a 4th pitch right now (same as he was his last few starts last season).

I want to see how it plays through five innings, but right now, I think if he can stretch out and keep the stuff he's got a real good chance of starting the year in the rotation.

I still have concerns about a lack of slow secondary that he can consistent use to keep batters off balance. If everything is 89-97, batters can start to key up on that.

He also gave up some loud contact despite having a decent WHIFF on ptches.

From Roch:

Kyle Bradish threw four simulated innings today at Twin Lakes Park, and his next appearance will come with Triple-A Norfolk.

“We’re going to break him out of here imminently,” Elias said.

Good to know they aren't waiting until May.

Wow. Just a step away from Baltimore. I'm looking forward to his debut later this decade. :)

Thing is, Bradish already has 21 AAA appearances under his belt.   I think we’ll see him sometime in May or June, unless he takes a step backwards.   Of course, it depends in part on what happens with other guys.

It feels to me like Bradish will be the first potentially good starting pitcher recalled.

    • Wouldn’t even consider it. I wouldn’t offer anything more than the QO
    • Adley and it’s not particularly close. I’m not writing off Adley because of a second half slump.
    • This season is far from over but that doesn't mean we can't walk and chew gum at the same time. This is going to be a very interesting offseason. The Os have a lot of spots likely secured for 2025 already and yet there is plenty of uncertainty as well. Barring a trade, these guys are definitely on the team next year: Adley, Gunnar, Holliday, Mayo*, Kjerstad, Westburg, Cowser, Urias, Eflin, GRod, Kremer, Felix, Perez, DC, Rogers and Cano.  That is 16 of your 26 man roster. The salaries for those 16 players will total around $46M, give or take. With those 16 players, you have your entire starting IF (including C), 2 OFers, 3 or 4 starting pitchers, 4 or 5 relievers (depending on Rogers) and your key bench guy. *Mayo potentially could start in the minors since he has looked  bad this year but its a SSS and I think they are committed to him and Im not sure going to the minors is going to be some major help for him.  But he will be on the active roster at some point next year. The Os also have the ability to keep (meaning they are under team control...salary estimates following player) Cedric Mullins (8.5M), Mountcastle (5.5M), OHearn (8M option), G Soto (6M), Dominguez (8M option...has 500K buyout), Mateo (3.2M), Akin (2.5M) and Webb (2.2M). For your 10 remaining roster spots, you need a back up C, 1 starting OFer, 5 pitchers and 3 other offensive players. Some of the relievers I listed will be brought back but others likely traded. Those are cheap contracts but the O's need to add another legit high leverage arm and someone(s) will be left off because of that. Either way, the team has plenty of money to add to this team given the low payroll of those definitely back.  Also, keep in mind Bradish will be on the payroll next year and I am assuming they will non tender Tyler Wells. Depending on his status, it is possible they bring him back but not sure I see the point. Having so many cheap players on the roster, many of whom will be cheap for a while, gives you so much flexibility. Also, it’s certainly possible that some of the players  I listed in the definite 16 will be traded, which will open up a spot or more.
    • Your last statement I dont believe is correct with a 2 way tie against the Tigers in this scenario. We would both be 87-75 and 30-22 in the division. It would then go to interdivison record, which I believe we would win by 2 games.
    • There's no joy up here in Suxville!
    • Now we need to cheer for them this weekend.
    • The Elephant has been eliminated from catching the Orioles for a playoff spot, with 9 games remaining.
