I’m not gonna lie, I’m nervous that Wells has been subpar his last three outings.  Are the innings catching up to him?

He has been striking out more and missing more bats and ironically, he’s giving up More runs.  I think this version of him is better in the long term but there is also some evening out going on.  He’s not a 3 ERA guy.

The O's bullpen is very deep. I foresee them limiting Wells to five innings hence, despite the five fine 6-inning starts he's turned in. The weather is now harder to survive as well. Look at what happened to 10-2 Taillon last night.

Did anyone see the stat posted on MASN last night?

Tyler Wells gave up more than three runs for the first time since his first start on 4/27.

He made 15 consecutive starts going more than four innings and giving up  three runs or less.  Set the franchise record.  Previous was 11 by Scott Erickson I believe.

Forgive me if I'm off by a little bit, but it was only on screen for a moment and I'm going off memory.

*13* was the record and it had to have been three runs or less (not "less than three runs"). Not sure if it was Erickson or not. Also, the streak began on April 27th (2 ER/5 IP vs. the Ys).

What I like in Wells' streak of 15 is that 10 of the times he's limited the opposition to 2 runs or less, incl. 0 or 1 seven times!

Was it 13?  I saw Bedard was on that list multiple times as well.  And ironically, none of the great pitchers from the glory years, though pitcher usage explains that.

And yes, three runs or less.

Yes, I was surprised by that, too. No Palmer, McNally, Cuellar, Dobson, Flanagan, McGregor, Mussina, Stone, Pappas. But I think Steve Barber was listed. Was Boddicker on the list?

The only names I remember for sure were Wells, Erickson, and Bedard 2x.  And maybe Dennis Martinez.

And right on cue, Gore goes on the IL.

That looked bad. Something tells me one way or the other Wells is done for 2022.

NVM.  I see now it was some kind of back/oblique thing.  Well, sigh, at least it wasn't an arm.
