When's Bynum coming back again? I think at that point this discussion will be moot anyways, unless they decide to send Knott down (again).

Wouldn't shock me.

I think you have to give Tejada his job back. The guy is the best player on the team and who knows how he'll adapt to this refreshing attitude that Trembley has injected. I can't imagine he wouldn't thrive.

As an aside, I love the way Trembley calls the players by their last names. Not sure why.

Hey, stop trying to hijack this thread.:002_sbiggrin:

Don't worry, I once got negative rep accidentally from Cindy for sticking up for her.

Cindy, I still love ya!

Thanks, your quote about Guthrie makes me chuckle. I am sure that is a quote he wishes he could redact!;)

Back on topic, I sure hope the suggestion in Roch's blog that originated here on the Hangout gets adopted by Trembley. Trembley is a sharp dude and it would not surprise me in the least that he doesn't figure on using Tejada as a DH on a regular basis here on.

I'm afraid Fahey will be kept though I'm a Hernandez fan myself. Fahey is more the UT guy who can play the OF in a pinch with Freddie still out. Lous- the - leatherman, is mostly just a nifty SS. But on a side note ,what is a KHARP? I Googled it and the best I can tell it is a small settlement in the Urals where the Russians have one of their toughest prison camps. Is it something like a cognoscentti? And while I welcome female mods and nominate Blueberry, there is no peeing in baseball,:D

Definitely have heard him refer to Roberts as "Roberts" on more than one occasion. It's very refreshing to me for some reason.

Good for him. I remember one of the things that bugged me most about Mazzilli (although overall he bugged me much less than Perlozzo) was how he was always calling Roberts "a special little player" or "the little son of a gun" or "a tough little guy." That and he always seemed to be hugging him whether Brian wanted a hug or not. Perlozzo was more or less the same way towards him. That has to get annoying for a grown man to constantly be a) reminded that he's short and b) treated like he's somebody's cute little kid that they want to show off to the world because he's just so adorable. I mean, obviously there are advantages to that adorableness as soon as he walks out of the stadium and into a bar, but still there have to be times when he just wants to beat the snot out of some of these guys that won't shut up about how small he is. Trembley treating them all like adult professionals who are respected and expected to live up to the respect they're given is a breath of fresh air from a whole lot of angles.

Repeated to explain acronym:

I'm sorry, but this is just false. You may not like or agree with SG or Drungo or whomever else qualifies as a "highly knowledgeable and respected poster" (HKARP :D), but at the very least they're consistent in their ideas, and if they change them, they do so for a solid reason, not just because they're hopping on someone's bandwagon.

It's HKARP. I'm the culprit who initially typed it wrong!:o

Yeah, I'd be a great mod, wouldn't I?;)

But seriously thanks for the compliment Gordo. :)

You are more than welcome, you are one of my favorite posters, but I still don't know what a HKARP is. I do know what the AARP is unfortunately, so please forgive my age driven ignorance.

I wonder if Trembley was ever in the military? He seems to carry himself like he was which I believe is an attribute as a leader. Remember Hank Bauer, he was a tough ex-Marine. That is exactly the kind of manager this team needs.

Thanks again. One thing I love about this board is the fact that so many of the posters who gave me a somewhat hard time early on have come to respect me and I them. (Builds campfire, sings kum-ba-ya... accidentally sets office on fire). It's fun to be part of an online community with so many smart, funny people such as yourself. Anyway... the term HKARP was invented by Italian Stallion in the post I quoted above. As far as I know, it had absolutely no meaning before that. Who specifically qualifies is open to interpretation. I guess we could start a thread about it kind of like when we debate whether Bedard is an "ace" or Roberts is an "elite" second baseman (my answers: definitely on the latter and I may have finally come around on the former), but I'd really rather not.

    • I think a combination of announcers overusing the narrative, and the playoff sweep leaving a sour taste. I still like the streak though.
    • In theory the team could go 4 series in a row where they win one out of three games. On the flipside a team could win eight out of twelve games, but have a three game sweep mixed in this stretch. Which team is actually doing better the one that hasn’t been swept or the other playing .666 winning percentage ball.  The streak is a good indicator, but I’ll take a deep playoff run with a few three game losing streaks mixed in over the course of a season.
    • I think it'd be a cool record for the club to have...why so much indifference?
    • Exceeding expectations: Irvin.  I said before the season I thought he'd have a monster season but had no idea it'd be like this. Gunnar:  Thought he'd be more of the same as last year, maybe a bit of a sophomore slump but he's MVP level even with his recent skid.  His defense looks legit, too.  He's making the leap in year 2 to superstar player. Adley:  Hitting for a higher average than I would have expected, now it looks like the power is coming around, too. Cowser:  Low bar to hurdle here, didn't know what to expect/low expectations help him here.   O'Hearn:  Thought he'd still be good but not this good. Mounty:  Glad to have been wrong about him after being all over him last year.  His defense is excellent, I think he'll be in the running for a GG this year. Westburg:  1.8 bWAR already, had no idea this was coming.  Looking like an invaluable member of the team moving forward.  Steady, quiet excellence. Mateo:  Thought he might not even have a spot on the team this spring but his defense is electric at 2nd base.  Would like to see more steals from him, though. Kremer:  He's been great. I don't know how his bWAR is -0.2, 46 innings of a 1.022 WHIP has to be worth more than that.  I thought he'd be solid, I didn't think he'd be this good. Suarez:  Out of nowhere for 23 innings of 0.913 WHIP.  Amazing. Akin:  I'll get some flak for this but I don't care.  I didn't expect much from him, so anything positive is a step in the right direction.  1.056 WHIP out of the pen, I'll take that all day.  21 strikeouts in 18 innings.  Remains to be seen if he can do this all year, but I think he's fully healthy and back to throwing strikes.   Failing to meet expectations Jackson Holliday:  But I'm not upset about it.   Kimbrel:  But of course. Cedric:  This hurts because I love the guy but he looks awful at the plate.  He's still somewhat indispensable because of his range in CF but the second half of last year was bad and it's even worse this year.   Tony Santander:  Almost don't want to put him here because he's a notorious slow starter so expectations probably should have been adjusted.   Cano:  Low on the list here because I expected him to be not as effective this year as he was last year.  But he's a good candidate for a roller coaster appearance and he's bailed himself out with some outstanding defensive plays.  1.328 WHIP isn't ideal for someone in his spot. I'm not gonna put injured players on here so that spares Hays and G-Rod from making the failing to meet expectations list.
    • Watching the weather tonight it seems like they might have been able to get at least half the game in before this current precipitation which doesn't look all that heavy. Plus it looks like there's going to be a break in the weather during the next hour.
    • Just posted in the other thread, and yes, I believe the answers just above are correct. If we lose tomorrow, it's over (thankfully).
