This also depends on how you feel about him as a hitter.  He may be the better offense prospect vs Young.

As position prospects I have no problem going for the SS.  Both have swing and miss questions.  By the way, we have no idea. The physical could have shown something that would affect him as a hitter also.  A knee or hip condition.

So he was redrafted once again in the 3rd round after a so-so two-way year. His slot bonus this year is $747,600 pick No. 91. Last year he was pick 81 worth $793,600 by the Orioles.

So it appears he cost himself a little bit of money (assuming the Orioles were offering slot) and a year of professional development where he would have gotten a lot more than the 30 innings he got this year in college.

Looking at his walk rate this year and lack of innings, I think the Orioles were better off with him not signing. He'll never hit in the pros with his ridiculous strike out rate and he obviously can't command his stuff. Oklahoma State thoughts so much of his pitching he got 3 starts and 11 relief outings.

Who knows, maybe with some professional coaching and development they'll have something, but I think the kid would have been better off signing last year and gotten the year of professional development vs the 30 innings in college.

He can hit the ball a mile but he makes Jud Fabian look like Rod Carew.  His best bet is on the mound which is why the O’s drafted him as a pitcher.  He’ll be interesting to follow.

Update.  In 15 PA, McLean with 2 doubles, 2 homers, and a whopping 10 strikeouts.

He must have had a bad 2nd outing.   ERA 9.00.  WHIP 1.5
